A letter arrives from Riga

Your Grace,

Livonia and Brandenburg have been at speaking terms for a long time.

However, this is threatened, not by us, but by the latest events in Bohemia.

The Grand Duchy of Livonia demands that all foreign troops in Bohemia will be withdrawn immediatly.

The Grand Duchy of Livonia together with its allies Prussia, Denmark and Sweden will declare war on those that do not follow this advice.

The Grand Duchy of Livonia do not feel responsible in any way if the Holy Roman Empire is damaged, the responsibility lies with those who unjustly attacked our alliance partners in Bohemia.

The Grand Duchy of Livonia, together with the mighty forces of Prussia, Denmark and Sweden will not lay down arms before the government of Bohemia is recognized as the only legitimate government.

You still have a chance to avoid hostilities, and that is to withdraw all your forces immediatly from Bohemia and sign a treaty with the Bohemian government.

If not, We will lead the Northern Alliance in battle, and I can assure to every man and woman in Europe that we will be victorious, the war against our alliance partner in Bohemia is unjust, and will end in the destruction of the enemy forces...so help me God..

Kristiern Wasa, Leader and Grand Duke of Livonia

A letter from Pommern is given to the Duke.

"Good and Honorabl Duke,

I am writing in order to improve our relationships. I want to apologize you once again for unfortunate events that brought "vikings" to Berlin. I explained my motifs and concerns in our erlier private coresspondance. Now, when peace between The Liga and The Northern Alliance was signed, I feel it is time to restore good relations between The House of Hochenzolern and The House of The Greif.

Pommern was not involwed in this dreadful conflict and was speared of and war damages. Trade in Stettin flourish as never before peasants and town dwellers are content, corps will be good. I think I should share my prosperity with you. I feel partly responsible for attack on Branderburg therefore I offer you help of Pommern masons, bricklayers, artisans and craftmen who will help to rebulit any damages in your Duchy. I also offer you a gift of 1000 ducats from my private coffers.

I pray for your acceptance of my hand.

By his own hand in Stettin,
Joachim Zbigniew Friedrich von Klenau-Kaminski of the Greif, heir to the ducal throne of Pommerania, Regent and Protector of the Country.

The Arrival of Siegfried von Schlager

A large middle-aged man, obviously once a soldier by his military gait, enters almost marching along a straight line toward the dias. Exuding an assumed aura of authority as surrounds those familiar with the commanding of men, people part as he passes leaving his path clear. His march is slowed though, perhaps by the slight limp he conceals so carefully?

The man wears the simple clothes of a country gentleman like a uniform, his only decoration a gold cross on a gold wreath suspended from a blue and black ribbon. His heels come together smartly and he offers an efficient bow, brushing his gray mustache before speaking in a clear carrying tone,

"Your grace, I, Sir Siegfried von Schlager, Knight of St. Henry and former captain in his grace's army present myself as ambassador for his grace the Count Palatine of the Rhine to you the Margrave of Brandenburg. Here is a letter penned by the Count Palatine empowering me as his ambassador. He hands a sealed letter to the Margrave.

Short and direct, that's von Schlager's style. He takes a breath, neither quick nor drawn out.

"Furthermore, the Count Palatine has instructed me to convey to you his deep admiration, shared by myself, for your continued service to the Empire as Imperial Steward, and to present to you a reward for your illustrious works."

He reaches into his coat, removing a small box of black wood engraved with the coat of arms of the Palatinate.

"Since the beginning of the Rheinland Palatinate, the Counts Palatine have strove to ensure the defense of the Empire and the Rhine. With such a deeply rooted interest, Count Frederick I created the Golden Cross of the Rhine to be awarded for extraordinary service to the Empire.

von Schlager steps forward opening the box to reveal a gold cross hanging from a black and gold ribbon, the

The soldier-come-diplomat smiles proudly as he presents the gift, obviously placing high value on it.

"The Count Palatine Erich I has empowered me to present to you the Golden Cross of the Rhine and all rights and privileges there associated. I hereby present and divest to you Friedrich von Hohenvollern, Margrave of Brandenburg, the Golden Cross of the Rhine, as of this moment you may wear the Cross and exercise all powers there connected."

His duty finished, Siegfried bows quickly and efficiently, before moving off at the same gate to take a place on the side.

A letter arrives from Stettin, bearing the seal of Bremen.

Good and noble Friedrich I, Duke of Brandenburg and Prince-Elector of the Empire.

Know that Bremen was proud to count Brandenburg among her allies when the Liga von Nurnberg existed, and that I have the greatest respect for your position as Imperial Steward, a position of honour you have proved yourself more than worthy to.

In these times, when the Empire stands without an Emperor, I beg you to consider your actions carefully.
It is of great importance that the Emperor elected can be respected by all nations, both within and outside the Empire, and even though I feel great respect for your work for the Empire and believe you would be able to lead the Empire through the threathening diversion, it is my belief that others do not think so.

It is a fact that Brandenburg are not very respected among members of the now dissolved Northern Alliance, and I need not remind you that the Alliance counted among its members both Imperial nations, and nations of great importance to the Empire.
If the former Alliance-members continue to disrespect the Emperor of the Romans, it would make peacefull coexistence very difficult.

Thus I beg you, for the greater good of the Empire, to resign your candidature to the post as Holy Roman Empire, and throw your support behind von Blommenstein of Cologne.
I respect you as a duke and Elector, and would respect and obey you as Emperor, but I beg you, let your love for the Empire guide you in this decision.

By his own hand in Stettin
Johann II
Duke of Bremen.

A letter arrives for the cardinal of Berlin, primate of the Diocese of Germania:

Cardinal Archbishop Stephen Bodeker of Berlin, Primate of the Diocese of Germania.
Your Excellency.
I am, as you might be aware, Yours and the Holy Mothers Churchs most faithfull servant in Bremen.
Thus, I feel it is my duty to God to call your attention to the following:
As you are probarbly aware, Bremen was an archbishphropic untill 1362, where misguided citizens, lead by the merchant elite, usurped the power.
Now, Johann II has been punished by God Almighty for his great sins, among which counts the fact that he continued to prevent the Archbishop from assuming the rulership of Bremen which is rightfully his.
And even when the former duke burns in Hell for his sins, his son, Johann III prepares to commit the very same sin.
I have discussed the matter with the wife of the late duke, and she has even threathened to imprison me, a servant of the Holy Mother Church, should I refuse to crown Johann III as duke of Bremen.
Your Excellency, for the sake of Johann IIIs soul, let him not commit the same grave sins as his father.
Order him to step down from his unlawfull position before he takes it up.
Now, with the brother of an archbishop ruling the Holy Roman Empire, would be the best possibly time for the Holy Mother Church to regain what is rightfully hers; the duchy of Bremen.
Please bring this urgent matter to the Holy Fathers attention before it is to late, and before the young Johann III condems himself to the same fate as his father.
Yours and Gods most loyal servant.
Archbishop Horst Töllnich of Bremen

The Stuarts of Scotland hold your office very high in respect for not only have our ancestors in the past been Stewards, but we hold you good Duke in high regard for your honor and dignity. A match with your heir and a Stuart Duchess on the throne of Brandenburg would fill our hearts with much joy, and bind our houses together not only in friendship but in family. For your heir I have a sister who I think will very much be a great match for him. She is a twin and her name is Margaret. She is one year older than your son, will you accept this Stuart as your sons heir. If so please respond and send your heir to collect his bride.

Your friend and brother in Christ,
