Its just some flavor. Christopher tried out this new title but it didn't really catch on for future monarchs. In game he's the only one who gets it.

I think there's often a bit of hindsight involved in what sounds silly to us or not. Certainly I came across some (non-period) texts where this title was used mockingly but it's not so different from how other titles are constructed (i.e. Compare to arch duke, king of kings, etc).
