Has anyone ever seen the AI - aragon become Spain?

As I remember you have to own Madrid, to become Spain,
something I have not experienced AI Aragon even coming close
to do.
(Which is properbly very historical, but still - weird stuff does happen in EU)
The event seems purely for the benefit of the players (a good
thing), but if it is believed that Aragon historically could have accompliched
some of the things that Spain did, why not make it
easier for Aragon to become Spain (controlling Andalusia or Sevilla
or whatever).

Usually Castille is too strong for Aragon, I seldom saw Aragone actually winning a war against Castille (but once they did they gained a nice colonial empire - imagine new world being partitioned between Scotland - me, and Aragon ;))

In my GC with Portugal, Aragon and myself have more or less divided Castille between us. Castille still owns Castille proper though... So It'll become Spain in a few years. :D

Can a human player actually turn Aragon into Spain?

I know that if you play as the various minors with French culture you can conquer Paris and become the new French kingdom, but I played a game as Aragon not to long ago and I'm certain that I was never given the option to become Spain after I annexed Castille...

(Does it matter that I diplomatically annexed them after a forced-vassalization rather than simply militarily annexed them?)

Because if both Aragon and Castile could become Spain at the same time the game would crash, so they cannot have different demands.

And if it wasn't capital for Castile that was needed it would be much too easy to prevent Castile from becoming Spain by taking that province, much as it is easy to prevent Russia from forming if you live in the vicinity.

One of the prerequisites for Aragon to become Spain is that Spain must not exist. That would be enough to prevent two countries from both becoming Spain at once.

Aragon can become Spain until 1490. That gives you a little extra time, so if you nearly wipe out Castile and then they become Spain, you may have time to finish them off and become Spain yourself.

Good reasoning, I am just a little sad that I
never have seen (AI-) Aragon become Spain.
Well statistically if I play enough it should eventually happen some day. :)
I just wonder if I'll live to see it.....
...perhaps with a little help:rolleyes:
(*starts planning how Portugal could postpone colonization and cut down Castille to size - all for the benefit of Aragon *)

Just play Aragon, it's not that hard to win from Castille when they are fighting Granada. In the EEP it's even easier, you start with a nice monarch/leader. If you manage to become Spain you'll keep the Italian culture.
Only problem you'll have is a -6 stab hit (no cb, royal mariage, same religion and good relations)

But if both have the requisites then they will trigger the event simultaneously and so..

You can fiddle a lot with this, but I guess it is easiest as it is.

Of course, you could add to Aragon that Castile must not exist for their event to be able to fire.. hmm.. you could suggest it to EEP, that you could remove all demands for event, only have a noSpain for Castile and noSpain, noCastile for Aragon.

I don't know, Aragon's option is mostly for humans anyway, but the 'both must be prevented at the same time' was the offical explanation the first time the question was asked.

Castille currently controls 2 (two) provinces for me :) I'm playing as Granada and has taken the southern third of the peninsula, Leon defected to Aragon, I vassalized Castille and beat portugal, and England took the top 3 provinces of the peninsula (asturia, galicia and the other one)

So then Aragon becoming Spain is fundamentally different to some French minor becoming France then, right? For Aragon it's dependant on owning Madrid before the Viva Espana event, which happens at a specific date.... but as I recall, if you're a French minor you can become France at any time just by conquering Paris...
