I'm looking at a video showing the German aircraft tech tree, the angry joe video posted several days ago, and you have the Arado Ar 196, a light scout plane, as the German 1940 naval bomber. What in the heck? Surely the Heinkel He 115 would be more appropriate in this slot. Sorry for the nitpick, but the former WW2 airplane buff in me is squirming in discomfort at this inconsistency.

The problem is, that there're no twin engine naval bombers but only single engine.

How does the carrier variant of a He-115 look like

I am much more triggered by the Ju 187, why not something like Hs 129 which actually existed?

Or how about that Fw 300 which looks like a single engined float plane? Although it was never built, the Fw 300 was supposed to be a further development of the Fw 200. A 4 engined heavy naval bomber.

sure, but again, how does the carrier based version of a Fw200 Condor or Fw300 look like....they really mean a single engined torpedo plane

Why would it matter what the carrier versions look like? Folding wings, possibly, as with that carrier version of the Ju-87. Both the Ar-196 and He-115 would also need to lose those floats. But none of that matters because, to the best of my knowledge, none of those practical considerations are represented in-game.

Or were you suggesting twin-engined planes can't be launched from carriers? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Doolittle_Raid

Whats wrong with having real life proposals/designs becoming units in a game involving historical what ifs? Or is it simply the case of there being better units to use which make more sense?

Don't ask me, I didn't put Fw 300 there. Germans strapped a torpedo under Fw 190 but they really didn't have any advanced, particularly carrier suitable single engine torpedo bombers. They pretty much just had their fiesler biplane.

Nobody even knows if that Junkers rotating tail abomination would have worked. It's basically a Stuka with a rotating tail and retractable undercarriage. Nothing is inherently wrong with stuffing it there, but it's an eyesore to me.

I'd much rather prefer something real like a Hs 129 as an upgrade from the Stuka, although to be honest it wouldn't fit the 1944 date all that well. It was produced from 1940. There were proposals however, like the Hs 129 C/D to equip it with better engines which never got made before the war ended.

I guess the way to represent an He-115 in-game would be to create a variant of somehting like a He-111 or Do-17 with high naval attack. Presumably the piddly single engined naval bombers are all short-ranged, which seems completely crazy to me. Yes, we're going to design an airplane meant to target capital ships with torpedoes, but only if they drop anchor next to the coast. If they are, in fact, all designed to be as short-ranged as I fear, then there would seem to be no point whatsoever in using the baseline model, but immediately researching the carrier variant.
