Like it says in the title. More than once I've settled troops in for a quick siege without having assigned generals beforehand, then looked up to see a (usually allied or mercenary) doomstack coming in to ruin my fun. My problem is, I can't seem to figure out how to get into the flank/general interface of an army that's in the process of a siege. So I end up fighting a defensive battle at a severe disadvantage. Am I missing something, or is it working as designed?

Pause the game and make to move the army out - you can assign generals. Now, put the army back to sieging and unpause. You won't lose any siege progress. The only disadvantage of this is if there's an ally sieging with you he will now be in control of the siege.

I don't think you are missing something, you can only change generals in home/conquered territory or on the move. Which is annoying.

One possibly work around is to seperate all but a tiny force, then move this force for a moment so you can change its generals. When you reunite it with the seiging force the generals will probably be the same (it will pick the top martial generals in the stack i think)

edit: beaten to it

The more annoying problem for me are generals that aren't leading an army but are still considered to be in the army. You need to assign them then immediately unassign them to use them elsewhere. I think this happens when you have 2 armies and you then merge them.

Great. I had figured out the pause-move gambit as a workaround. I just wanted to make sure that there wasn't a blindingly obvious button that I was missing. Thanks, all!

I had seen a rebel Duke still was a general for me. Perhaps this is the reason:laugh:

Assign generals before you get to the county you are sieging would be the obvious answer.

Once I combine and make my stacks I assign generals before advancing to the enemies realm.
