Cheaper graphics cards with pixelshader 3.0 cost about 120-150€. At least here.

Of course you might need a new motherboard with PCI-Express, a new processor and perhaps a nice new set of memory as well to go with it. Come to think of it, PC-gaming is an expensive hobby :p
Needn't be. I got my GF6200 from my local grocery store for $60. It has served me well.

Mhmh, prolly. There are considerations about how old is your computer though. IIRC all cards with pixelshader 2.0 demand also AGP8X or PCI-Express.
Meaning that if you have older system, you also need to upgrade your motherboard. Meaning that the processor you have will prolly be uncompatible with the new mobo, so you need to get a new one of these as well. Same applies to RAM.

Though, when you have these problems, you probably should upgrade anyway.

I'm more worreid about laptop owners though. They tend to have crappy video cards.

Test the game on various configurations of hardware.

I'd be VERY willing to attempt to join the betas by signing up (let us hope I don't get distracted like in 1815 mod ...) but I don't understand what I have quoted. I would like to join as well, because even though I was against the monarch system if I see how it works ...

that's why consoles are so popular

The "test on various configurations" is stability testing of the game on different hardware. This means that if you have a somewhat unusuial/different setup you may be accepted because we need to know how stable the game is on your system and we don't have one to test it on ourselves.

Curious

I've got nearly all the other P'dox titeles (from EU 1 to CK, HoI was a dissapointment however, so I never bought HoI 2). They all reside on my WindowsXP-box which now stand unused on the loft.

That's because I've copied them over to my laptop, an Acer Travelmate 4652 running Gentoo Linux, where I play them under Wine-0.9.8-r1.

Would I be accepted as a beta-tester? I mean, all the other games run flawlessly (at less than 100% cpu-usage)?

I know that the wast majority run P'dox games under Windows, but as long as I am to test AI and other stuff, it should be okay, right?

You could try applying. I'm not sure how they would view that, and there'd ne some limitations since any bugs you reported relating to crash or interface or...well...lots of stuff would be invalidated by your OS.

On the other hand, it would be interesting to see if it would run happily under Wine.

Give it a try, but don't be too disappointed if you don't get in. :)

Okies, will do.
But, what OS should I claim to have? Wine will emulate all versions of windows from 98 and up... :)
IF you plan to pull your PC out again and do your testing on it then tell them you have XP (whatever is on that system).

IF you plan to use the laptop then be honest and tell them what you have and are using. If you lie about it then if you get in the first bug report you submit will instantly reveal what system you're really using and would likely get you banned from the beta, and probably the forum as well.

Well, I'm asking as I'm planning to do the testing EU3 on the Linux-run laptop. However, on the registration-page, only Windows-versions were listed. That is why posted my question 2 posts up.
Wine can emulate all windows-systems since win-98, but what should I claim to have? There is no "other system" box to check unfortunately, and I don't want to apply flying false colours so to speak....

Oh. I see.

Hm....not sure what to say. I guess mark XP but be VERY sure that you cleary state why you marked off the XP box and indicate what you actually have.
