Hello

I installed CK2 with much dlc content on a brandnew win8.1 Notebook, but when i try to start, it crashes.

I updated all relevant files: directx, visual c++, net.framework, the graphics driver - everything. Still it does not launch.

I looked all the forums for help and tried all the solutions they offer - still does not launch. I am desperate.

Its this popup:

I know you say you've done it, but please go through this list item by item, thanks:

Please go to C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\crusader kings ii\DX\ and run dxsetup.exe
Please go to C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\crusader kings ii\ and run vcredist.exe

If that doesn't help, please try installing ALL of these Microsoft modules:

First: http://www.microsoft.com/download/en/details.aspx?id=8328

Then: http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=35

(If that doesn't do anything then http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=8109 )

Then: visit the Windows Update site and allow it to apply all .NET updates/patches it wants to, for all .NET versions.

IF that doesn't help, Please post a dxdiag.txt (you can delete everything after the end of the "Sound devices" section for brevity) and your Documents/CK2/settings.txt. From your Documents/Paradox/CK2/logs/ directory, post system.log .

Thank you for quick reply.

I have done all the steps you advised - several times, no change.

I run a stram version of the game, so i neither can find the dxdiag.txt, settings.txt and the system.log files. I searched my steam install for them - no matches.

They are not under stram, or even Steam. They are where I specified: "your Documents/CK2/settings.txt ... your Documents/Paradox/CK2/logs/ directory".

No, unfortunately they are not. Not even some hidden files. Mybe its because i installed steam not on the OS drive. But on the drive where i installed steam there is no path "your Documents/CK2/settings.txt..." neither.

If in your Documents folder there is no Paradox sub-folder, that usually means you have manually moved your Documents folder rather than doing it in the official Microsoft way, and so the game can't find it.

To test this theory, use notepad to make a text file in the Steam/SteamApps/Common/CK2 folder called userdir.txt . In that file place a single dot (period, full stop). Exit and save, and now run ck2game.exe from that same folder - it should then create the user files lieke setting.txt in that folder instead of under Documents. If that works, you can replace that dot with the actual path you have moved your Documents folder too, and that should fix the issue.
