Classes of the previous fantasy AOW covered almost all sorts of fantasy warfare and classified it well enough. They were all charismatic and balanced. Let us see what is happening to that potencial in APW4?

  1. Theocrat: presented and grouped (Tomes of Order)
  2. Archdruid: presented and grouped (Tomes of Nature)
  3. Necromancer: presented and grouped (Tomes of Shadow)
  4. Drednought: at the moment is absent
  5. Sorcerer: ??? may be there are some connotations with Mystic culture / Tomes / Wizard king ruler type
  6. Warlord: ??? possibly spread among different Tomes or tend to Chaos
  7. Rogue: ???

I suppose the Rogue type of warfare corresponds well to Dark culture. I’d like to see there units with poison strike, backstab and seduce. And something like poison darter instead of routine archer. That would increase unit diversity and allow us to reproduce good old classical goblins, just like we can make classical dwarves with crossbows through Industrious culture )

I doubt it'll be to hard to make characters similar to the Rogue, Sorcerer, and Warlord. Even Planetfall has a race that can play a roguelike style, the Syndicate, so I doubt they'd forget it for AoW4.

You will need more than a bunch of tomes to recreate your "class". Shadow does not equal necromancy. You have Shadow tomes which don't relate to anything undead at all. I bet some of the shadow tomes will be needed to recreate the rogue class if you want to do it (Shadow stalkers, are they in?). The cultures offer a big portion of "classes" as well.

The times of classic classes are over in AoW4. I also bet, when 'the former rogue' would be your favorite class and you try to copy it in your first game, then again in you second and third game, you will end up with a mix of culture, traits and tomes which differ much from your first pick and they may even differ from the former 'rogue class' but offer at least as much fun. ;)

Several hundred hours into AOW3 then I rolled an gigantic map where AI is always chosen randomly.....

Midgame, There is five age of deceptions activate. Somehow I have avoided having too many rogues on a map until that one particular game.

I wanted to commit suicide at that point, and i suspect the same of emperor AIs of same thing.

No more age of deception please XD Twas the only game i abandoned and left unfinished.
Its been years and years since that game and I'm still paranoid of seeing such a absurd thing happen again.

I think the physical tomes will contain some units that are similar to dreadnought technology. It seems unlikely that guns would all of a sudden be completely removed when they were in every other AoW game.

Little bit suprised not to have seen any siege units, but maybe you build them when you are actually doing a siege, instead of bringing them in your army?

Tombles confirmed that dreadnought isn't inside the base game. But it might be coming in expansion game. Well, I hope it will be after all the dreadnought class was what baited me into picking up aow3 on first day. Lol

They could create a mechanical DLC, steampowered Dwarven stuff vs. some mechanomystic Moleartificer offering different approaches on moving battleconstructs and vehicles and an archdriud type Wizard King despising all things mechanical to oppose... Imagine new cultures, traits and tomes to fit the scenario.

As an AoW3 Dreadnaught player, I'd love this. The tricky part would be not dumping it all on Materium. That said, I can see ways each aspect could get into it:
Materium: The easiest one. Enchanted industries, steampunk galore.
Order: Clockpunk, gears, "everything in its place". Further exploration of the more sinister, imperialist aspects of Order.
Dark: Pollution, smog, poison. Power at a price, ruthless exploitation of the land and your people. Undead with aspects of pollution and/or Frankenstein's monster.
Chaos: Mad Max style junkyard stuff. Expendable, unstable drones, explosives. Play up the revolutionary aspects of Chaos.
Mystic: Magitek science, perhaps leaning into mad science tropes. Hybrid or enhanced elementals in armor.
Nature: Technology that works with, not against nature. Practical gadgets, preservation of nature, natural energy sources. Protection against debuffs, implicitly to counter those used by Dark but generally applicable.

Why would you spread the Dreadnought stuff around the other tome families?

Tomes.very roughly correlate to AoW3 classes, so imho better to create a whole tome family that is Dreadnought type stuff.

There is plenty of Steam punk stuff to use as inspiration.
