Hi Wiz

Can you answer these questions?

Since AoW is adding many new provinces and tags to the game, including denser number of provinces around coastal regions, how will this be affecting maps generated by the random map generator from CoP?

Will the pre 1.8 tags be used?
Will the number of provinces in the map generator be close to Pre or Post 1.8?
How will the distribution of provinces work around coastal and inland areas?

Eagerly awaiting your reply

1) No, it uses new tags.
2) Post.
3) As before... just with more provinces.

Did the new provinces (worldwide, not only in America) get new ID numbers or have you changed some of the old ones as well?

Has there been any thoughts about going back and tweaking the random map generator, particularly making it more visually appealing? It's not exactly the most well received or used feature.

Thanks for the answer Wiz

I would also support another look at the random map generator, but so that there is a little more variety. At the moment, its usually very similar. It always tries to fill in the whole area, and there are usually 3-5 large semi-continent sized landmasses
Maybe sometimes, the top half or bottom half (Or a quarter) could be empty, or it could be one large landmass, or an archipelago etc. Civ 4's map scripts did this well

The current random map generator is pretty dire, and as I understand it, the guy who made it no longer works on the EU4 project. Still, notes should be taken on how to make amazing looking random maps
As far as I know, one of the major requirements for the ingame generator is speed - it is not tolerable to load every save for 5 minutes as advertised in the generator you linked. So many its methods may not be suitable for including into the game. On the other hand I agree that improving the generated results should be definitely strive for.

IMHO they should have stayed with the "normal" world shape and just slightly randomize it. That would still add the element of new, unknown world to discover, but it would not look so freaking bad as it does currently.

For me the compromise is the worst choice here. For example I want to both play with the real map and with a random map, but what's the point to play with an almost-real-but-not-at-it map?

They should just fix the generator to make the end result better, not more homogenous. If they make the result more diverse, that's a bonus.

Exactly my thoughts. But fixing past DLC doesn't seem to be a priority of Paradox, as long as there is money to be made by adding new DLCs.
