if "what if" countries are to be included why not go with a greek (or armenian in majority) pontus- the flag is easy to produce, stephanos must have had it in his urls, but i can provide it easily if wanted) or a northern Hepeiros (flag already provided in my "greek flag" thread. But what is more logical, historic, and i really would like was the Ionian Republic, the flag already made (by stephanos i think), only a small event file for joining with greece needed! :) Come on, its just one or two events...

But it won't work very well. First off, Greece will be weaker, and the new countries might revolt from Greece as well as from the Ottomans. And besides, Pontus was an affair that took part during and after the WWI, which is out of the dates. Sorry :(

you have made this point before, you must be right, i just thought that through events we could have the ionian republic (corfu) join with greece and then have no revolts whatsoever. Are you saying that this is impossible in the game's engine? (i.e if a region can become a nation it cannot lose that possibility when some conditions are met through scripting?) However other people proposed events for moving the capital of greece, and therefore if that could happen there wouldnt be any possibility for two greek nations appearing (one in hellas and one in morea). Furthermore if that cant happen then Crete cant exist either as independent before union with Greece? :(
Certainly there cant be any case for crete, corfu, morea, hellas etc becomming new greek nations after they are unified, that indeed would make us face more revolts than the othoman empire :)

Of course personally i would like an event for moving the capital to Thessalonike (something that happened in ww1), but i realise that if scripting cannot solve the problem of regions losing nation capital status after union then it is unworkable :)

a few questions...

when does hearts of iron pick up the story? wwi or wwii?

and

there were severe revolts in crete against venetian rule - so i could create an independent crete (or more accurately, a republic of st. titus) for the patch that lets you play pre-1419... would this work for crusader kings? if not, it could be a major event as the venetians were thus forced to institute a colonial rule.

stephanos

p.s. don't worry ioanni, with the patch letting you play after 1819, you could add whatever country you wanted... havard's guides are great at showing how to edit the files, if you don't know already... if you want those countries, i'll make them for you; but i see the logic in not including them

someone could make a unigue spite for greek soldiers (tsoliades-eyzonoi)

agnwstwstrat.jpg

after a certain military technology the sprite can change to a modern one

already in the works

enivid said that he was planning on creating evzone unit sprites after he did alterations that affected the game proper (1419-1819). you can check what he's made already at birger jarl's site

stephanos

p.s. at least i think it was enivid that said that... just the evzone sprites for all of greece, eh? you'll upset the sphakianotes!

stephanos not just the cretans, there were many different uniforms, but the game engine doesnt allow for all that :) the eyzonoi however were the official light soldier's uniform used even in the victorious campaign against musolini, early ww2

Sorry for my unknowledge, but is that flag historical? I think I've seen it before, but in connection to WW2. Maybe Nazi-Germany used it?...

Punjab

I wonder how you guys are going to represent the shortlived Kingdom of Punjab ruled by Ranjit Singh from 1801 to 1831. The flag that is in the game, I dont know the origins of. But I think for Ranjit Singh's rule the correct flag should be

After he died, the British annexed Punjab

that's the flag of the Sikh religion that also served as the Sikh battle flag and national flag, and still does actually. Them and the Hindu Mahrattis were allied against the Mughals and British.

i know, the reason I suggested it as a flag for the Kingdom of Punjab under Ranjit Singh is because that was the only real Sikh Kingdom of any major importance to exist. The British allowed Ranjit Singh to rule in exchange for Singh's punjab serving as a buffer zone for British England. After Ranjit died though, his sucessors were bad leaders who ended up pissing off the British and getting Punjab annexed by 1849.

Singh did attack the NWFP where Peshawar is now, leading to a lot of animosity between Afghanis and Sikhs. However, Ranjit seemingly was a very good ruler who respected all religions. I went to Lahore last summer, where Ranjit is buried, and I was surprised to see a tribute type of display in his honor at a museum in the Lahore Fort. (The Lahore Fort was built by Aurangzeb, its similar to the Red Fort in Dehli).

I deleted my own post, who deleted yours I don't know.

Anyway, I was not sure whether that flag was appropriate or not (it would be like using a cross flag for every Christian country). However, it is more appropriate than the current one, so I'll add it.

I can fix the shield myself though.
