I often think about them and how I want them, but how theyd be op.

So a MAYBE idea hit me.
Leaving calculation/lag costs aside for the moment...

What if it had a range of like 5 or 1... but a radius of X, *and* would hit friendly ships too? Ships with the weapon would sorta be "high casualties for everyone" types of dudes, which might help prevent them from being super abused and op maybe? Perhaps favorites of Exterminators?

Anyway, just a random idea.

I think the downvotes are out of the fear, that this could maybe very effective in countering doomstacked fleets. And most war focused players like their doomstacks and fear nothing more then a effective way to counter massive fleets with less effort. At least this could be a way to force them to split up fleet and force for more micro or tactic... This is why i like your idea :)

I don't like the idea of building Kamikazes, they would have to be strong to be useful and relatively hard to counter, I don't think it would lead to fun gameplay. I think that your ships could potentially try to ram enemies when close to death if you have no retreat policy, and maybe an edict "it's a good day to die" if your ship connects it would do damage like 1 week or so of its DPS in one shot, and wouldn't be AOE. You wouldn't be able to cheese the ability with corvettes because they won't deal a lot of damage, well maybe you could but it wouldn't end doomstacked BBs
