Hi,

I just bought Iron Cross with AoD but was wondering if for the price difference I should not have bought HoI 3 + exp instead. This is not criticism, as I have not digged into Iron Cross yet. I was just looking for unbiased feedback.

Thanks.

I'm playing AoD because of the features offered that are not in HOI3, mainly the statistics. I do miss the HOI3 map and a lot of the features that come with it. Bottom line, buy both.

It really depends what you're looking for in a wargame.

Try both AoD by itself, and with Iron Cross, and if you don't really feel like you're getting into either of them, and have some spare cash, try out HoI3

HOI3 is laggy like crazy for me, meanwhile AOD + IC is barely laggy.

I have them both and I like the new features of hoi 3 to much to give them up like the map, chain of command, the supply system, the new diplomacy system, the trading system and brigade customization and so on. But I do have fast cpu.

Have them also.

Have to say that HoI3 has been something that I didn't expect after playing HoI2. I pre order HoI3 and hard to explain my feelings when try play game. Whole game was so rotten and after many many re-starts I give up. When SF arrive I purchase it and hope for better. But damage was already done. Game is still "looking" and "feeling" the same - it just feels bad. There might be now few bugs, but after all frustration don''t like to play it. Lost money for me and HoI4 must be working one when it arrive and no - this time I won't pre-order. Also I like somewhat real history lines and total freedom of alliances in HoI3 is horror for me.

HoI2 and all variants offer good "size" of world, even engine itself is old. IC have now plenty on new provinces and this add more tactical aspect to game, even game itself is big scale one. Many provinces means more units when fronts are bigger, but IC and costs are still heritage from regular map times. Will see how I like this it when time comes (now done many 33 starts to learn basic thigs). AoD fixed trade and diplomacy for me.

I wait also DH arrive. Game prices are low to compare how many hours you spend with them. I welcome this price level with digital distribution and nowdays is not choice "what game I should purchase". IC is fine game for price you need to pay.

HOI3 is laggy like crazy for me, meanwhile AOD + IC is barely laggy.

That is one of my main concerns in relation to HOI3/SF. I'm also interested in this comparison. I have AOD installed, but not Iron Cross. I've never bought HOI3 (for reasons I don't need to detail for this audience).

I did install the HOI3 demo at some point and IIRC, it seemed to run fairly slow. Just as a comparison, my Victoria 2 is running at a perfectly respectable pace, at least in the early going. I mention V2 because I'm assuming the engines are more alike for V2/HOI3 than for AOD. I typically play at a slower pace, so this isn't a deal-breaker.

I do know what kind of game I want, however. I've learned a lot from EU3's (and V2's) game-wide color-coding of "good things green" "bad things red" (I've assumed yellow things are neutral, but I've never asked about that). It looks to me like HOI3 uses that type of coding, whereas AOD (at least by itself, doesn't), since it was based on the HOI2 engine.

I'm going to play one combination (AOD/IC or HOI3/SF) or the other and I never play multiplayer.

With that background, here are my 3 questions:

  1. Should I expect noticable improvements in speed in HOI3/SF over what the HOI3 demo offers ?
  2. Does IC add the green/yellow/red color-coding I'm looking for to AOD?
  3. Does anyone know when Paradox is planning to offer a bundle of HOI3/SF, or would be willing to make an "educated" guess?
