HOI3 is laggy like crazy for me, meanwhile AOD + IC is barely laggy.
That is one of my main concerns in relation to HOI3/SF. I'm also interested in this comparison. I have AOD installed, but not Iron Cross. I've never bought HOI3 (for reasons I don't need to detail for this audience).
I
did install the HOI3 demo at some point and IIRC, it seemed to run fairly slow. Just as a comparison, my Victoria 2 is running at a perfectly respectable pace, at least in the early going. I mention V2 because I'm assuming the engines are more alike for V2/HOI3 than for AOD. I typically play at a slower pace, so this isn't a deal-breaker.
I
do know what kind of game I want, however. I've learned a lot from EU3's (and V2's) game-wide color-coding of "good things green" "bad things red" (I've assumed yellow things are neutral, but I've never asked about that). It looks to me like HOI3 uses that type of coding, whereas AOD (at least by itself, doesn't), since it was based on the HOI2 engine.
I'm going to play one combination (AOD/IC or HOI3/SF) or the other and I never play multiplayer.
With that background, here are my 3 questions:
- Should I expect noticable improvements in speed in HOI3/SF over what the HOI3 demo offers ?
- Does IC add the green/yellow/red color-coding I'm looking for to AOD?
- Does anyone know when Paradox is planning to offer a bundle of HOI3/SF, or would be willing to make an "educated" guess?
