Say you're an Irish minor wanting to make use of that +tradition they get. Or really any OPM, but I was wanting to do it for an Irish game. The only ways I know of changing to a republic are Milan and the Netherland's unique events, and letting revolutionary rebels break you. So of course being an OPM would make it quicker. But while I have seen revolutionaries a few times in pre-1500 games, it's usually peasants and they always want a despotic monarchy. Do you need to somehow reduce your legitimacy, or something else, or is it just random?

If you allow peasants to take a province, then let them sit on that province for 10 years, they will break your country - although this sounds bad, it really just means that all their demands will be enforced. This has a 50% chance of turning you into a noble republic, from which you can change into other forms of Republic.

If you're an OPM, it'll be a boring ten years - but doing it this way means you can become a republic before 1500.

It does seem that having a NI which gives a bonus to Republican Tradition should also include a way for said country to become a Republic aside from letting rebels take them over.

Perhaps there should be an event chain for Ireland (maybe after forming Ireland and not for all of the minors) which allows a switch to a Republic.

The religious and aristocracy idea group have an event each to spawn revolutionary rebels.
Also, until you get ADM tech high enough all they will do is turn your government into a Despo Monarchy.
