Grosshaus and Vulture,
May we have an updated list of countries? I don't want to start researching countries like Portugal or Romania if you feel that you have enough.

Thanks

More finds on Hungary,

I found that two factories were manufacturing small arms in the 1930-1945 period. Those were Danuvia (motorcycle factory), Budapest and Femaru Fegyver es Gepgyar (FEG) (seems a dedicated arms manufacturer) also at Budapest. But I had no luck in finding (english) websites about those factories. Maybe somebody who actually can read hungarian will have more luck.

Most relevant link;
http://www.angelfire.com/oh2/manowar/gundir/MannliHU.htm

PS: still no luck on Hungarian naval yards post 1918 ;)

yep, got most of what i need for the japs...

now for the REALLY TRICKY part... Chinese warlords (including tibet)

*1* got a pretty good source with xie and im getting a book on the subject soon...

but im trying to make some kind of diplomatic map for the warlords in china e.g. who liked who and who did not like everybody else... where there any unofficial alliances between the warlords?

which area's did the warlords want/desire to get/have? or thought as core in their domains (you probably cant answer this... and it is not terribly important, see 1)

i simply have not had the time to check out the CORE chinese ai files yet, but when i get off work tonight ill check them out... if anyone knows of ai files for the warlords or of people who have made ai files for the warlords for hoi...?

sorry but as i have read the NDA i cant ask more specific questions... ;)

I hope this might help establishing the relations.

The new national government that the Kuomintang established at Nanjing in 1928 was faced with three problems of overpowering magnitude. First, Chiang had actually brought only five provinces under his control. The remainder of the country was still governed by local warlords. Second, by the early 1930s he was confronted with an internal Communist rebellion. The Chinese Communists, after being purged from the Kuomintang in 1927, split into two factions and went underground. One faction attempted to foment urban uprisings; the other, headed by Mao Zedong, took to the countryside of central China, where it mobilized peasant support, formed a peasant army, and set up several soviet governments. The first faction eventually joined Mao in central China. Third, Chiang’s new government was faced with Japanese aggression in North and Northeast China.

This might be too early in time but these are only warlord names I could dig out:
A. 1916-1923

From 1916 to 1918, there were, generally speaking, two groups of warlords in China. One consisted of Yuan Shih-k'ai's generals in North China; the other of militarists who had been uncooperative with Yuan in the south. Upon the death of Yuan Shih-k'ai in 1916, the two groups fought with each other for territorial expansion, which continued till 1918. In that year, the northern group was itself divided into two: an "Anfu clique" and a "Chihli clique". The Anfu clique was led by Tuan Ch'i-jui, while the Chihli clique by Wu P'ei-fu. The two cliques often fought with each other for the control of Peking. Members of the two groups often changed sides. In 1920, Chang Tso-lin, who was a warlord backed by the Japanese in Manchuria, entered the struggle. Chang belonged to neither clique. He had his own ambitions.

B. 1924-1928

In 1924, the second round of warlord warfare began. Feng Yu-hsiang, who had previously been one of Wu P'ei-fu's generals, betrayed Wu and went over to the enemy's camp, the Anfu clique. Then, a struggle between Feng and Chang Tso-lin took place. In the end, Feng was defeated and had to retreat to Northwest China, where he got Russian backing. Meanwhile, in the south, warlords also fought for territories. Even Sun Yat-sen entered the struggle with warlords politically and militarily.

It's not much but i'll keep digging :)

From Jer8m8's post in another HoI2 thread about Mengukuo:

Present-day eastern Inner Mongolia, then part of Manchuria, came under the control of the Japanese puppet state Manchukuo in 1931, and was administered thus until the end of the war in 1945.

In 1937, open war broke out between China and Japan. On December 8th, 1937, Mongolian Prince Teh Wang declared the independence of Inner Mongolia (except the parts already in Manchukuo) as Mengkiang or Mengkukuo and signed close agreements with Manchukuo and Japan, thereby turning Inner Mongolia to a puppet of the Japanese Empire. The capital was established at Chan Pei, near Kalgan, with the puppet government's control extending around Hohhot. In August 1945, Mengkiang was taken by Soviet-backed communist rebels.

None of those warlords except Sheng Shicai of Sinkiang (Xinjiang) where warlords by 1936, but rather Generals in the Nationalist Army. In fact I'm pretty sure except for Sinkiang and the Japanese puppets, the Chinese warlords of the 20's where generally annexed by the Nationalists

By 1936, most Chinese warlords were either ousted by Chiang Kai-Shek's Norther Expedition of 1927, or had joined his government to enrich themselves.

About the most well-known warlords still in power in 1936 (from Wikipedia:
Yen Hsi-Shan:
In Japan he became a member of Sun Yat-sen's Revolutionary Alliance and following the 1911 uprisings he seized power in Shanxi Province.

Yen ruled the province until the Communists ousted him in 1949. [...]
During WWII, Yen effectively resisted Japanese attempts to seize Shanxi, and his troops (including thousands of Japanese) held out against the Communists until the fortress city of T'ai-yüan fell in April 1949.

Sheng Shikai:
A Han Chinese born in Kaiyuan, Manchuria, he was first sent to Xinjiang to work for Governor Jin Shuren. He repressed the Qumul Uprising. Though during his early years as Governor he was pro-Soviet and anti-minority (anti-Uygur and anti-Kazakh), he turned anti-Soviet and anti-Communist during the Sino-Japanese War (1937-1945). Sheng Shicai was responsible for the execution of a brother of Mao Zedong.

He left Xinjiang to join the Kuomintang's Republic of China government as Minister of Agriculture and Forestry.

Zhang Hsüeh-Liang:
nicknamed the "Young Marshall", became the effective ruler of Manchuria and much of Northeast China after the assassination of his father Chang Tso-lin on June 4, 1928 by the Japanese.
[...]
In 1930, when Feng Yü-hsiang and Yen Hsi-shan attempted to overthrow Chiang Kai-shek’s government, Zhang stepped in to support the Nanjing government against the northern Warlords in exchange for control of the key railroads in Hebei Province and the customs revenues from the port city of Tianjin. Following the Mukden Incident and the Japanese invasion of Zhang's own domain of Manchuria in 1931, Chiang Kai-shek ordered Zhang to withdraw south of the Great Wall of China without a fight. Zhang later traveled in Europe before returning the China to take command of the Communist Suppression Campaigns first in Hebei-Henan-Anhui and later in the Northwest.[...]

On April 6, 1936, General Zhang met with Zhou Enlai to plan the end of the Chinese Civil War. In the Xi'an incident (December 12, 1936), Zhang and another general Yang Hu-cheng kidnapped Chiang Kai-shek and imprisoned the head of the Nationalist government until he agreed to form a united front with the communists against the Japanese invasion.[...]Following Chiang Kai-shek's release, the Young Marshal was tried, convicted, and sentenced to ten years in prison. Chiang Kai-shek intervened and Zhang was placed under house arrest.

Right. They'd probably send PB-DK a e-mail with a nice hi-res map attached which clearly shows a united and strong communist china in 1936. Nationalists? Sinkiang? Tibet? What are you talking about? ;)

Two items (Figured this forum was the best place to get Beta attention):

Firstly, (a little off topic) I really like this forum and I am committed to supporting HoI2 BUT I am getting really tired of seeing this:

The server is too busy at the moment. Please try again later.

Why is it so bad? Is it because of all the Betas downloading HoI2 updates? It needs to be fixed before HoI2 goes retail. We don't want new Paradoxians getting upset and going somewhere else do we?

Now - for the Betas.

Reload Error in HoI. I am playing a HoI game which must be stopped and saved often at the moment. Due to spheres of influence I have noticed that when I reload the game it rechecks the SoI and is prone to DoWing me (on reload) LOTS! So far it has not affected game but it may start to soon.
[What I mean is: Play game without Saving and Reloading means that I only get DoWed occationally in trials - but with Saving and Reloading I get DoWed heaps and often.]
Please check this in HoI2. You should be able to save every 'hour' if you like without the game rechecking SoI on every reload which greatly multiplys the chances you will be DoWed.
