I've played Norway during the Great War, I annexed half of Sweden, it wasn't that difficult, but the Swedes proved rebellious on several occasions.

If you will play Norway, you will only be able to play a few years (the shortest scenario, the Great War, is the only who includes Norway). I will advice you to play Sweden-Norway in 1836 instead.

Norway belongs to "söte bror" in the GC, and is thus not playable (but I assume they are in later scenarios, at least in the WWI scen)

You could perhaps start a GC as Sweden, release Norway as a satellite, and then load the game as Norway. Maybe.

As stated, Norway is only playable in the WWI scenario, the rest, Norway is an integral part of Sweden, the Norwegian provinces are even Swedish core provinces, and they have Norwegian culture! It is as we know, the Evil Swedish Conspiracy (TM).

However, a bunch of freedom fighters are working to correct this. It has been revealed that the Satelitte status in the game limits the diplomatic possibilities. Thus, making Norway a Swedish satelitte is MUCH more accurate than having it as core lands, so that the Swedish player can use all the income from the Norwegian provinces to build industry in Sweden, or furfill megalomanaic ambishions. So removal of at least the Norwegian cores is a must.

Also, the Norwegian culture should be removed from Sweden unless:

-Norway is granted independence and given Swedish culture
-Denmark is given Norwegian culture ( Which would be much more reasonable than giving it to Sweden)

Let's not mix current day politics with this game-such a discussion belongs to OT. And really, I don't think about what a nation did in real life when plaing them - if I should care I never could play Germany in HoI, Soviet and so on... :)

Well, I'd assume that Sweden has norwegian culture simply because it would look silly if the norwegian population was assimilated into the swedish population. I think Sweden should keep it even if Norway starts as a satellite, simply because it's not that unlikely that Sweden will end up incorporating Norway anyway(which is ahistorical, but not totally unimaginable).

Wether Denmark should be granted the norwegian culture I do not know. Was there any chance that Denmark would try to reclaim Norway? My guess is there wasn't.

*must-resist-urge-to-start-"explaining-things"-to-American*

;) :D

Anyways, as has been said, starting a GC as Sweden, releasing Norway as satellite, saving, quitting to main screen, then loading, selecting Norway works.

However, I think that Norway then starts with no goods and no units, which doesn't seem quite right. Anyone up for starting a "Norway-as-satellite-in-1836"-mod? Could probably set up some more events than exist already as well, while we're at it. :)

EDIT: C.N: Care to elaborate on what your mod includes WRT Norway?

:) Rafiki

rafiki, I suggest you head over to the VIP section of the scenario forum, and help out with scandinavia. My guess is, if we can develop a satifsfactory scandinavian condition with some playtesting, that it will be included in one of the future patches.

This is, after all, what happened with EU2! Norway was an integral part of Denmark, but, big kudos to Håvard and others, a scenario was made, and Norway made playable in 1419!

Sweden also has (and had) a substantial finnish minority eg. in Tornedalen.

Fair enough. Then perhaps Denmark should have norwegian culture.

OK.
First, the mod contains 8 different starting setups, considering different starting situations for Norway and Finland. 3 different for each, combining to 9 alternatives (the 9th is the Paradox standard).
All start in 1836.

Variations 3 and 7: Norway belongs to Sweden as in the GC.

Variations 1, 2 and 8: Denmark never lost Norway.

Variations 4, 5 and 6: Norway is a Swedish satellite.
- No one except Norway has cores on it.
- No changes in industries or populations compared to what it has in the GC.
- No military units added to Norway.
- Same size stockpile and cash reserves as Sweden starts with in the GC.
- Same political and social settings as Sweden, except that political_parties are free, ruling_party is 6409 (embetsmennene) and party_system is one_party. (Thanks to Zakath for corrections!)
- No events are changed or added.

I don`t understand why Norwegian, Swedish and Danish cultures exist. All these three should be replaced with Scandinavian culture. There are only a very few differences between the cultures in Norway, Sweden and Denmark today - and there were even fewer in 1836!
