Amongst the five rewards shown for getting the deluxe edition, the only one that has a present-day function beyond tourism is Grand Central Station. Does anyone know if the devs have indicated if it will also be functional as a transportation hub (ie- train station & metro station together)?

I'm expecting it will just be a monument, but how cool would it be to also handle transportation...?

Really? Your expectations are that low already that you would take the GCS for just a monument... as it was in CXL?

They've already said that the Grand Central is just a monument. Remember Moo saying it in another thread. He said that this could be a job for modders to work on, we'll see.

Well, I started this thread to ask the question, so obviously I'm HOPING it will be more than that. But, since Grand Central Terminal is alongside four other things that are clearly just monuments, it makes me think that's all they have done with it. Would that be called "low expectations"? I don't know, on another thread I've been accused of having my expectations too high... probably just balances out...

OK, good to know, thanks for that info. I hadn't seen John's post on that.

It's a bit too bad that it isn't functional.. Kind of a tease there.

That might be a good expansion a Station Creator.. maybe grouped with an airport creator.. That helps design custom, functional stations that can be used in the game.

It looks like there is already a station model on Steam Workshop, so I think that is possible. Are you saying for underground access? I would imagine when they release the tunnels update that will include all forms of transportation.

Just like many British ones :(

Well, at least the British have: 1. The Stations. 2. The Track. and 3. The Trains. The three things our rail system here in Canada is often lacking (at least in a lot of towns).

Rail service to my original home town of 75,000 was discontinued in the early 80's... the old train station is a tourist bureau now. They expanded the highway links, and forced everyone to drive all the time to go back and forth to other places. Ain't that environmentally-forward thinking?

Grand Central Station has underground connections and the game doesn't ship with those. Nevertheless, it would be really neat for CO to convert it into a huge station when they release tunnels in a patch, or at least convert it into a big metro station.

Fun fact, though. It's not called Grand Central Station, it's called Grand Central Terminal.

New Yorkers (like myself, of course :p) get really iffy when you refer to it as a station, and not a terminal. I do hope that at some point it will be possible to make this (either by mod or by a future update) it can be possible to take regional metro and make an underground complex beneath the actual model.

I know, my bad! When I started the thread, I used the wrong name and then I couldn't change it. But you'll notice in my reply (4th item in the thread) I referred to it correctly. But too late, I couldn't go back and change the name of the thread, and others followed suit calling it "Station". I should have known better, too... last summer when I was visiting NYC, I stayed up-river (Sleepy Hollow), and took Metro North into Grand Central Terminal every day. You'd think that would be enough exposure that I'd remember the right name.

As an aside, I believe the adjoining subway station is correctly called Grand Central Station... but the landmark that we know and the Metro North train area is definitely Grand Central Terminal.

Alas many stations and lines were also closed in the UK in the 1960s after the Beeching report. You can still see many buildings that were once stations, or tunnels that now act as footpaths.

Good to know we Canadians didn't have a monopoly on shortsightedness when it comes to rail!

And don't get me wrong -- I'm not a self-basher when it comes to my country. There are many things I think Canada does REALLY well, and I'm very proud to live here, but when it comes to implementing a solid vision for our rail network, not so much.
