anyone found a way around that bug in the "seize city CB" where the city reverts to original owner?

it really screws you up, I mean, as a merchant republic you're already very lacking in CB to use, and the only one that really works for expansión is broken...

Is there anything you can do to "fix" it (like editing something, console command, etc) to keep those cities?

console >
charinfo
//hover over the shield of the title and find its ID , baroniee always begin with b_ counties with c_ hover over your char to find his ID //
give_title titleID charID
//or
titleowner titleID charID

by editing save file :
find where info about that title is saved and look for holder= and replace the number in there with your char id

I’m playing with HIP-JD (couldnt wait for the HF update of HIP in january and started a game).
I saw the bug mentioned in some random old thread I couldnt find again, also, never had this bug happening during my last game back in 2017, perhaps its a HIP bug...

You actually seize the city and it remains owned by whoever patrician had the trade post there, and then suddenly, after 2 weeks, it reverts back to the original owner with a newly generated mayor.

In any case, if the bug sounds new for most, perhaps its time to just install HF and start a new game, I assume its fixed already if almost nobody heard of it

I tried the first fix, but it backfired, as it makes the patrician owning the trade post there become mayor/podestá of the city in question (as his main title) , thus killing his patrician family, and replacing it with a new one. Before, they used to become mayors of the city while still being patricians.
So I tried giving him the patrician a claim to the city via console, but game won't allow me to press the claim of the other patricians, it seems.

Gotta try the second way.

Anyways, thanks, I enjoy experimenting with the game rules and seeing what crazy stuff happens afterwards

If you really wants to expand your realm as MR, just using the Germanic pagan. It can coastal conquer and holywar after reform.
I think it really doesn't worth to spend 10yr turce on a single city, just 5 year turce by the coastal conquer.

Its not a bug. HIP introduced this feature in HYDRA 6 to reduce barony border-gore. Basically it prevents barony tier titles from being owned or being vassals of anyone who isn't its de-jure liege (AKA the county owner). The HIP developers implemented this to help solve the barony border gore between France and the HRE due to all the inheritances between the two nations.

I believe the only exception to the border-gore removal are Holy Orders, but don't quote me on that. This does have the unfortunate side effect of destroying any overseas territories for Merchant Republics.

Another user created a submod for HIP that removes this feature.

thanks for all the helpful responses.

The fix actually seems reasonable, I've seen some insane border gore going on.

It only royally screws MRs, since their list of available CBs is already patethic, and now, you're kind of stuck with spending tons of money, time and prestige to fabricate claims like in the old days, while feudals, tribals, etc have this kickass huuuge list of new CBs to choose from...damn, they don't even let MRs use the 'unjustified invasión CB'...should've turned off the MR CB restrictions right off the bat when starting the game if i knew...

And even worse, AI Doges keep declaring wars and winning them with the "seize city CB" only to auto-lose them 2 weeks later lol

Is there a reason they wouldn't they remove the CB entirely if it doesn't work anymore? Especially if the AI can't figure this out. As far as I know, the "Seize city" CB is only ever a barony-level war; if the city in question is the county capital, you can't use it.

Yea, the “magic” of the “seize city CB” was that, once you seized the city, and after a cooldown, you got a “seize the whole county” CB, that allowed you to bypass the boring and costly “fabricate claim” routine.
Now, MRs seem to be completely dependent on “fabricate claim” for expansion, while everybody else (feudal, tribal, nomads) have sooo many different new CBs to choose from...
