Currently, I'm trying it, and it's going alright. I waited until May 19th, 1940, when the Germans started getting bogged down in France and Belgium before launching an attack on their eastern border...
They had Slovakia as a puppet, and I expected Finland to join them as revenge for my the Winter War, and I wasn't surprised when Romania and Bulgaria joined the Axis too (Romania is still Social Liberal, though, lol).
What was unexpected, however, was that, shortly after, Greece declared war on me, but independantly of the Axis, so they're not at war with the Allies, too. Yugoslavia, however, joined the Axis. The southern front, however, has seen so fighting, as none of the smaller nations are willing to commit troops just yet.
What puzzles me, though, is that Hungary, of all nations, hasn't declared war on me or even joined the Axis, despite getting a peice of Slovakia when the Germans took it.
Italy, too, hasn't joined the Axis, though they're probably event-based for once Paris falls. Though Paris may stand, as the Germans are already diverting about 25% of their western army towards the east, and France has already taken back peices of Belgium...Belgium stays in the war still, as Ghent never fell.
I may have screwed up history, but it appears to be for the better. Berlin is already in my sights.
EDIT: Wow, I'm always amazed at the game's versatility. Yugoslavia actually had an event, "This is a Mistake: Break the Pact of Steel", and they made peace with me (and the allies), dropping out of the Axis. Germany then had an event, "Prepare to Invade Yugoslavia". It's so interesting so see events that are completely unhistorical scripted into the game. Always new and exciting. Good job, Paradox!
