Same SA is good. Cheaper cost is also good. Faster speed is nice.

But what you're really paying for is the hardness and armor rating.
You 're also paying for higher penetration and HA. LARM is fine unless you run into a significant number of mediums or heavies, in which case, you'll be the guy who brought a knife to a gun fight.

Against the AI, I've not found this to be an issue vs medium tanks, but i do have an anti tank support company. Against heavies, well, i don't see any most games. I think i saw a Tiger late on in a France game, but the fact i couldn't pierce it was offset by the fact it was surrounded and cut off and out of supply. Again, by late war, you will have the tech to make 13.2kph medium tanks, which you can start adding to the light armour divisions, as well as gradually start replacing the moto for late war, high speed mechs. 4 LARM 1 MED 1 MECH 4 MOT with anti tank support @ 13.2kph is a formiddable unit, with good hardness.

Yeah, the AI is not nearly as good at concentrating tanks as a human. And the AI is not as good at getting high tech tanks in place early so that it can concentrate thousands of those Panthers against the Soviets in 1941.

Here I think we have it in a nutshell. LARM strategies (and almost anything else under the sun) are viable against the AI. In my opinion, such an approach in MP is a big gamble. Either you win quickly because of many penetrations and encirclements or you suffer a painful loss if the front holds. This is not a risk I would ever take, but some might.

I like to use them in MP - just 4 or 5 40-width divisions (with motorised) when I play France or Italy and I want to secure north Africa fast. On desert, you can do really nasty things with LARM, especially when your opponent is not ready to stop you or can't/doesn't micro.

LARM is worthless in a fight, stick to MARM.

Have to disagree there baby-boy. Unless you're playing multiplayer at the beginning of the war and up until 1940 the AI mostly fields infantry and some sparse LARM divisions. With your own LARM you can easily punch a hole through large fronts and do huge encirclements. This is especially true during Barbarossa when the front line extends massively, you can keep busy the USSR in the center while they only field 1 or 2 infantry divisions to protect southern front line provinces, punch through those fast, encircle and kill off a ton of divisions. You can also benefit from the extra speed to quickly capture the Baku oil fields by speeding through the mountainous desert. This is also true in China.

Yeah, the AI deals very poorly with speed.

It should really be able to stop a LARM based offensive, but it has a hard time.

Quick question what about using, LARM with mech? its still about the same speed, is it still viable?

Only the 1944 Mech can keep up with LARM, and that's assuming you take the mobile infantry line. So, once I get that stuff i obviously crank it out as fast as possible, but the mechs are also expensive to manufacture and by that point you will have a lot of LARM divisions. So i'm probably just swapping the moto for mech one brigade at a time.

By that point, your LARM is only 1941 tech and quite obsolete, so you might as well use it up.

I mean, you could have one 20 width divison of 1943 Mech/Medium Armour at 13.2kph, or you could just add one brigade of fast MARM and fast MECH to 10 existing LARM divisions, giving them most of the armour and pierce ratings of a MARM division. By that point the hardness will be pretty decent too. Anything other than a proper armour division will do little damage to these, and the other side won't be able to field very many of them.
