I found the places in the saved game to change Italy and Germany to both be at 0.000 threat to each other, and at first it looked like Germany was going to abandon guarding the border, but then the AI decided to stand pat. When I loaded the game as Germany, it had made a bunch of theaters that seemed odd. Switzerland / Italy theater.... Romania / Hungary.... Hungary (but all units parked at the Slovakian border. Oddly, it put forces on all these borders, except on the one NOT allied to us (the Swiss).

Maybe it didn't move them from the Italian border because it didn't recalc a new theater. I tried forcing it to, but it wouldn't.

Could the AI be wanting to move the troops through their allied terrority but for whatever reason they fail to either ask or recieve transit rights so they just sit there waiting to recieve the rights?

In my case, the German's had transit rights through Italy, because when I adjusted the threat manually, one unit moved from the French / Italian border to the German / Italian border, before parking itself again.

ROFL:eek:
Same happend to me was playing as Germany and in mei1 1939 suddenly i got war with poland. Was kicking the shit out of them the ia defeated them in a month then got a message that england had invaded near kiel. Kicked them out (no ia but detached them) looked at france since a while and saw that the italians where near bordeaux and paris.
LOL:rofl:
and shut down the game.

plz can you fix this.

Probably because France only puts weak divisions down south that break on the first hint of battle, thus leaving france completely open to oblivion, and they wont pull units off the Mag line till half of france is gone.

I think that it might be the 'reassign' AI that needs some help. Like it puts a lof of troops into one theater, and then when that theater doesn't need them anymore it leaves them there. So that theater has a bunch of troops left defending nothing....

In the example of Germany guarding Italy, it wasn't that it wanted to guard against Italy's attack, it was that it wanted to attack Norfolk and gave that theater the wrong troops, it should have reassigned theaters so that some other command was given the troops that had space actually near Norfolk.

In your case, that may well be. In mine, they had Defensive stance on the Italian border for months, and no orders to go anywhere.

I don't have any case...

Just guesses.

I know that if I paid attention to my army groups, I would be building a lot of infantry and sending it down to Tunis.

I think there needs to be some ballance to the Theater requests.

Not sure what it could be. Something has to be triggering and telling the AI to send it's troops to guard these borders. Maybe it's heading to defend and is focusing to much on historical invasion routes to soon and to often.

As I mentioned in one of my prev posts in this thread, I think you guys should check out the AI's set objectives. In my case, the AI was at the northern border of Italy, but it was assigned to prepare for attack on England. I think it may be a pathfinding thing, and since England is across the water it didn't know where to go. I had a similar problem sending my Italian forces to invade Spain. I had access to them through Vichy France (with access rights) and through German lands, but when I told the AI to attack Nat Spain, it sent all my troops to Albania and other far away lands, even when my troops were currently on the Nat. Spain border. Anyone else try to check the AI objectives when it is acting strange?

Well the AI knows how to do amphibious assaults, they do it a little to well and to often in reality. I've seen Germany launch amphibious assaults on the UK so not sure what happened in your game, maybe they were in the process of building transport ships so they were just preparing their troops for when the ships got done and moved them to a save spot in preperation for the invasion.
