I swear, the last 3 games i was allied to Russia they couldnt join any of my wars because of constantly 5-6k in debt.. Something must be terribly wrong with the AI here?

Anyone else see this?

Its not just Estate Rebels. It's a previous issue that's exacerbated by Estate Rebels because of their higher frequency over the large mass-rebel attacks like Castilian civil war or English War of the Roses that used to proc debt spirals. Not sure where, but I read a dev post saying that its been looked into - the AI is making lots of "good" decisions that end up actually being bad ones.

I saw the Timurids horde spend 97 years at peace before they were attacked because of close to 5000 debt. Funny thing was they never broke up and never lost a single province, but were constantly fighting rebels all that time. I deliberately watched to see how long it would continue.

In this one almost everybody except the Ottomans has been ravaged horribly by rebels like this at one point or another. Almost every AI is in 1000 or more debt.

That's been around for a while. Even in 1.13 it was quite common for Muscovy/Russia to be 3-11k in debt. I had to bail them out in more than 1 occasion not to lose potentially powerful ally.

AI has been known to take debts when it doesn't need for a long time. I've seen stuff like Ottomans taking debt for war against Serbia, and Russia is a country that is constantly at war, and even though they can win against Kazan wthout any debts AI prefers not to risk and raise some mercenaries with the debt money.
Now that we also have estates AI is probably not great with handling them so this adds up too.

AI should get -4 interest and -0.10 yearly inflation. It's easier than programming the AI and will fix the problem for now and the future. AI has a hard time paying off debt due to interest, atleast in my observations. On a 1000 duckats of debt they would pay 40 duckats per month in interest...

Hoping to do something about this for next patch, but yeah easier to make promises than it is to hold them. ;)

It is most definitely not easy to introduce features like this and have the AI adapt to them. Unless I missed it in the patch notes rebels were stealth buffed ON TOP of estates, so a problem that was already there is now much worse. It's especially bad for the AI because it hits when the nation is already down and result in these spirals. A human can cut their losses a lot better, an AI cannot. So whenever rebels get buffed, the AI suffers the most.

Also the fact war exhaustion causes unrest makes no sense. We are tired of war, let's fight about it? It was more logical to me when it hit morale. I've not been a big fan of how rebels are handled in general and how it doesn't come in any other form other than a direct military problem rather than not paying taxes or even not being able to pay taxes if things got really bad but eh. I just feel the current system isn't a lot of fun at times and could be made something more in depth that has a variety of ways of dealing with it other than one.

It is most definitely not easy to introduce features like this and have the AI adapt to them. Unless I missed it in the patch notes rebels were stealth buffed ON TOP of estates, so a problem that was already there is now much worse. It's especially bad for the AI because it hits when the nation is already down and result in these spirals. A human can cut their losses a lot better, an AI cannot. So whenever rebels get buffed, the AI suffers the most.

Also the fact war exhaustion causes unrest makes no sense. We are tired of war, let's fight about it? It was more logical to me when it hit morale. I've not been a big fan of how rebels are handled in general and how it doesn't come in any other form other than a direct military problem rather than not paying taxes or even not being able to pay taxes if things got really bad but eh. I just feel the current system isn't a lot of fun at times and could be made something more in depth that has a variety of ways of dealing with it other than one.

Rebels are mentioned in the hotfix (vaguely), but the original 1.14 patch notes did not detail the size 3 --> 4 or increases rebel size with development changes (IE rebels were double-buffed in addition to estates). After seeing the image comparing 1.13 and 1.14 I ran a control-F on the full patch notes stickied here and there was absolutely no reference to an increase in rebels at that time.

Estates are a bit of a tightrope, and the AI is trying to drive a truck over it. Between LA from estates, huge rebel #'s, bad AI decision-making when fighting them, bad long-range planning against rebels in general, and the very punitive nature of mishandling estates the AI is getting spanked by the game mechanics.

Ironically, in my game as Tibet by far the biggest obstacle is Ming, who is lucky and does not have estates. Lucky Ming = weak heir unlikely and no estates = not shackled AI. In contrast when I attacked Muscovy the year tech 12 stopped being ahead of years, they were ADM 5 or 6, DIP 8, MIL 10 (I had random luckies on, don't think Muscovy was).
