Any word on if a boxed version will be released in North America?

I'm curious if a boxed version will ever see North American shores, or if we in NA will simply have to download it digitally. I realize Paradox is a European company and they probably don't publish in North America, but I'm still wondering if anything has been said about the subject one way or the other.

They have a publishing office in New York so Im quit sure they will have a boxed version in North America

From previous discussions on Collectors Editions on this sub-forum it looks like they wont do any kind of Collectors Edition but it is still a long time to the release so it might change. If there will be any Collectors Edition then it will come to Australia too.

I expect to see a boxed version in the US. They released HOI3 in Best Buy, Wal-Mart and Game Stop stores all around me, and you could order the boxed version on those on-line sites as well. It may take upwards of a week or two for them to actually get out on the shelves or available for order on-line, though. I think from the time Paradox released HOI3 until it was shown as in stock at my local Best Buy was about 3 to 5 days. I forget the exact time, so I'm padding it out to protect my reputation.

It took almost two weeks for HoI3 to be released in Best Buy and Wal-Mart around Atlanta, our Game Stops don't carry PC games anymore.

Why would you want a boxed version still? Retailers take too much money for the game compared to digital downloads.

Personally I like having the box, disc and manual even though patches make them obsolete. But I've been gaming for 30 years too, physical media and paper are comforting for us old-timers. As for pricing, the box versions are just as much as the digital so I get more for my money. Although I usually buy the 'complete' digitals when they are available.

What FmrPFCBob said, but for me it's also that digital distribution methods have screwed me over multiple times. Twice I couldn't install on more than one computer and another time where the copy-protection was unique to the digital downloaded version and actually made a lot of mods not work. This was after loosing the hard copy and me deciding "well, I'll just go the easy route and buy it off their online service". Big mistake.

Paradox may not have any of those inconveniences, but I don't really care because too many times I've been burned and games aren't cheap. Hard copy all the way for me.

It's all about personal preference. For me, it's a comfort thing. I just prefer having a physical copy of the game that I own rather than permission to download the game from a website, you know? Of course if digital download is the only option available, then that's the way I'll have to go.

I'm pretty sure we'll see a boxed version of Victoria II in Canada, and the United States. Hearts of Iron III was released in a box version, I bought it at a local EBgames store ... oh man, that reminds me of a story*.

But I won't be going to the stores to buy the game, I'm going to pre-order it. (Victoria II will be the first PC game I've pre-ordered)


*Anyways, the funny thing that happened to me at EBgames when I bought Hearts of Iron III was when I was walking out of the store with my Hearts of Iron III boxed copy. So I was maybe 7 steps to the door, and this kid and his mother walked in. His mom said "What game do you want", he replied by saying, "Hearts of Iron III". I was shocked, and felt guilty, because I bought the last copy in the store!
