Will you add them later?
I know half the forum will kill me, but well done achievements are always a lot of fun to get if they challenge me.
Hence Warband or other Games from Paradox.
So far Warlock is listed as not having them on Steam.
Is there any News about that? I tweeted PdxInteractive and WarlockTheGame but they did not respond :p.

I'm sure some hipster somewhere has not bought a game because it had achievements but as far as I know the normal world falls into 2 categories; like achievements and don't care.

That suggests Achievements can only boost a games success (except maybe with hipsters) and I think good achievements would add some re-playability to the game. I know maps are randomly generated and you can nerf yourself by not taking traits and there are multiple win conditions but at the end of the day all games of this type end up very similar in the late game and having something to aim for wouldn't hurt.

Then I play Civ5 now I don't often finish a game because the early game struggles are more fun than the late game clean-ups

WEll yes, you always have those people. But overall you gain more sales on Steam than you might potentially loose. And those not wanting Achievements can still disable the overlay so they don't see them.

You might be surprised - more because Steam Achievements ties the game into Steam only, ad I think there would be more sales gained if they dropped the Steam requirement than would be gained by adding Achievements.

Thats wrong. Having Achievements does not tie your game to Steam only.
You just need to wrap the Steamworks API into a conditional build. That's all.
Or did Alan Wake not come out on gog.com today? ;)
Or is Cities in Motion only available on Steam?
etc etc etc

Give them some time, it would have been nice to have them in game from the launch, but let them prioritize their work at hammering out things like the black map bug first.

Yeah I was a little bummed they didn't have them. Hopefully in a update. I'm guessing there will be one for beating the game as each pre-generated mage. Probably one for killing every god's avatar. And so forth.

And yeah achievements don't mean the game requires Steam. It only requires it if the developer wants that or if they use Steam for matchmaking.

Achievements are cool. Often motivational (like Civilization V were they kept me to going to win at least once with every Civ) or encouraging and satisfying. Like when you have to do some really difficult task and then the satisfaction when you complete it.
I take Steam or Paradox Connect achievements. In case you should use Steam, since this requires steamworks can you add cloud saves as well.

I didn't even notice there weren't achievements. Actually, now that you mention it, I think I enjoyed not having distracting popups.
There are so many things to be fixed and so many other interesting additions that could go into this game, before spending time on those useless medals.

I'd have to agree with this. Achievements in general aren't high on my priority list. I'd like to see more customization set-up options for my mage, as an example, before achievements get looked at.
