Any way to spread religion beyond your borders?

Is there any way to fund missionary missions into other states or at least 'encourage' the growth of Lutheran or Calvinist religion in other states?
If there isn't in the main game, are there mods for this?

I recently made a thread in the suggestion board about this.

And with the newest patch Muslims will be able to spread their faith through trade nodes in Asia. Can't find the exact comment atm.

Nothing in the game on the current patch though.
