Any way to fix issues with industrial zone parking spots?

Some of the buildings in industrial zones come with parking spots, but they often don't look good or realistic. Here are some examples:

Any strategies for making industrial zones look better and more realistic?

You can load them in the asset editor and make any changes you want.

There may be of a learning curve, but it should be doable.

Do I have to back up the assets before I edit them? Or will the game always preserve the original asset?

The game gives you a copy that you can rename to whatever. so the original is always safe.
