Is there any way to force tribal vassals to go republic too when you go MR as their tribal liege? I just created a norse republic and was a bit sad to see almost everybody going feudal, both for the -30 modifier but also for the sake of immersion. Anyone knows of a mod that changes this or any files I can modify? Thanks in advance!

No idea, but I'd like to see it as well. I went Republic with my Scandinavian Empire, and immediately had a bunch of pissed-off Nobles. Even building cities in their capitals didn't help...

I rage-quit and haven't played MRs since...

As I recall, the AI never choosing to become a Merchant Republic is a deliberate, albeit terrible choice on the part of the developers; it's actually impossible for them to take that decision. The only way to avoid having tribal vassals becoming feudal is to personally take over the counties yourself and then upgrade them before handing them off a mayor.

Otherwise, you're getting saddled with a bunch of vassals that have a massive opinion malus (especially after the positive opinion bonuses have been nerfed) that never goes away.
