Haven't played for a while, and I started an ironman game as Burgundy, just to get a feel for any changes. I did my usual run of actions; take the Bar conquest mission, do it, whilst fabricating claims on Utrecht, Friesland and Liege. I won the Bar war, and got my claims. As a peace settlement for the war, I just took Bar. That's the only thing I did. Suddenly, boom. -70 Aggressive Expansion penalty on pretty much everyone from France to Austria. Huge coalition, declares war in a few years, and my recovering manpower/mercenaries are no match for the constant stacks of annoyance.
In part, this may have been somewhat exacerbated by firstly, my heir dying, and then my ruler following him a few days later, leaving the bastard one-year old child of a maid to rule, through a regency council. However, the AE was absolutely ridiculous. In past games as Burgundy, I've been able to take Bar, Utrecht, Gelre, and Friesland, all without a coalition - sure, people were pissed at me, but they didn't declare a war. Was I just unlucky, or am I doing this wrong? Thanks.
