Any talk of allowing 2 lances?

I'm running battletech advanced 3062 mod and have been dropping 7 mechs for a while now. (The upgrade for the 8th is expensive) it's a lot of fun but it doubles the time of a mission.

I think for a large scale battles game the Warhammer 40K Gladius relics of war game engine would be a good fit. It's very similar to panzer general style games except it models individual weapons on units.

you dont need BTA to drop lances though BTA is mighty fun.
but if the 3062 timeline inst your cuppa tea just got get mission control from nexus and bigger drops from github.
(eventually they will be combined)
your crew finds a junked barely flyable leopard and as your repair it via engineering screen you can add more mechs, player control of mechs and more total tonnage for both lances.
there is a settings json in MC in which you can turn on MC/BD for flashpoints if you like.
it defaults to off
MC not only allows for more player mechs but a chance for more opfor lances and ally lances in a mission.
(i have done more then a few 12(me) vs 16 or more.)
it also randomizes spawn points and increases borders on most maps.

I remember reading a novel where they fit 2 light mechs in a single cubicle. And i remember seeing in Sarna that one can adapt a mech cubicle to hold 1 heavy or 2 light vehicles.

Maybe a change even lighter on balance is allowing us use of the last 2 cubicles of our Leopard. They aren´t holding ASFs after all.

This way one could drop a short company, but would have to use light vehicle and/or mechs.

The BATTLETECH Campaign starts the Player off in a Leopard Dropship and it has indeed already had its Aerospace Fighter Bays converted to a 5th and 6th Mech Bay. : )

hum... i read this thread and i have a question... what exaktly have Argo Upgrades and an second Lance to do with each other?

i mean: its a thing of Leadership-Skills of the Commander and Logistics, isnt it?

the Skill is clear, if you are expierenced enough to lead 7 Pilots into battle... why not? we are Mercs, why we should care much about rules like Lance sizes?

and the Logistics is clear too: to field a second Lance you need 2 LZs that are big enough for a second Leopard or 1 LZ that is used twice so that the second Lance is dropped with delay (okay we could use Drop-Pods too ;) they could be an Argo-Upgrade )

the second Leopard could be gathered by a Flashpoint for example, but thats more a suggestion, sorry

but the main Issue on fielding 2 Lances is the Ability to coordinate your pilots or am i wrong?

its part of the roleplay.....and how the mod is desgined to work.
you dont just get the ability to drop 2 lances.
you have to work at it.
its all explained in the upgrades and events
your crew finds a barely flyable..its basically flying junker of a leopard.
you get it and start working on it via its own set of upgrades in the engineering screen.
you have to repair and upgrade various parts of the junker in order to make it safe to use in a drop.
just like with the argo.
you dont get the ability to have 18 mechs in the mech bay right off right?
you have to repiar and upgrade to get that far.
so with this 2nd leopard you have to repiar the ship step by step...upgrade its command and control..etc

So if normal deployment is one lance of 4 mechs, would two lances be an Ultra Lance 4? :)

I guess I'm going to have to take the contrary opinion and say I do not want to manage more than a single lance. Turned-based battles in this game with just four mechs already take upwards of 30 minutes each. I've had a few approach an hour, and this is with the game's relatively small maps. I do not need even more mechs drawing out the length of the battles.

i think it's a forgone conclusion that those that want to be able to control a second lance would also like/expect the map size to be increased to accommodate the increased unit size.

If not, having the 2nd lance would be pointless as it wouldn't be bringing anything new to the table.

In BTA, I just started and have the ability to drop 5 mechs total with, I think, a max weight of 450 tons (basically on 50 tons on the second Leopard).

The larger maps feel nice, and it seems like BTA has opened up the default sight distance somewhat (and they can extend further with enhaced tech) as well as maybe extended the zoom out range. Altogether those things combined to make a contract where I felt like I had more and better tactical options to manage the fight.

thats what mission control mod does....amongst other things it extends the border of the maps and randomizes spawn points on no fp/prority missions
bigger drops adds the abilty to drop more then a single lance.
and of course they have settings that one can dicker with ( though i wouldnt mess with them if mc/bd are included in a larger mod pack.)

Is it a second Leopard? Or is it just using the aerospace area (a Leopard can carry 2 aerospace fighters) to carry some mechs (the lightest ones) instead? Much like how the space craft area of the Argo is used in the core game to give us the third mech bay...

well..crasft are is next to mech bays....aero/smallcraft are is opposite side of the ship.
also if it was the aero/smallcraft bays, how come i cannot have more then 18 mechs in the bay?
also how does mechs there get to mechbay for repiar/refit much less how do they get down to the planet.

as i explained earlier in the thread.........
its part of the roleplay.....and how the mod is desgined to work.

and while BTA removes that fluff for whatever reason it isnt feasible to use the aero/smallcraft bays.
another dropship is the only way to get additional mechs to the surface at same time as the main lance.

I'd love to see 2 lances, but I don't see that happening until either a sequel or an expansion that's so large it may as well be a sequel. I think the biggest challenge to that is getting the AI to a point where it doesn't need to outnumber you 3-1 to provide a challenge in the late game. Drop costs could help too since there would be an incentive to not drop 8 Atlases. Not that it would stop me every time. :D

as i have mentioned...mission control does increase map boundaries ( and it is configurable ) and its sub-mod bigger drops allows for 2nd lance.
so the ability to go beyond 1 lance and increase maps size it out there for anyone who wants it.
this is one of the reasons HBS gave us the ability to mod the game......

so that folks can take the vanilla and make of it what we will and the engine will allow.

Rules wise, the only 3025 'Mech you can fit two into single cubicle is Locust which has the compact 'mech positive quirk. 'Mech cubicle itself is an item that takes 150 tons of dropship space and can (normally) accommodate single 'mech up to 100 tons. Aerospace cubicle is identical in weight and max payload. Heavy vehicle cubicle (single vehicle up to 100 tons) is 100 ton item and light vehicle cubicle (up to 50 tons) is 50 ton item. I believe there explicitly exist Leopard variants modified to carry a company of twelve light vehicles in lieu of the 'mech lance.

That being said, I was under the impression that the aerospace cubicles are positioned mid-air on Leopard and practically impossible to deploy other vehicles from, even if converted to ferry them. I suppose in some circumstsnces the cargo could be unloaded with crane.
