In the case you already have all the counties that form the duchy (so no need for de jure claims) and appart from the 50 prestige, is there a good reason to usurp/create a duchy?
I mean if you have two already and dont want that awful "too many held duchies" modifier, I dont see the point in usurping/creating more, unless Im missing something (which is the most probable).
The duke will probably invest more money than you in the counties, but you will also get less money and troops from him, right? so i dont know.

Also, why "too many held duchies" but no "too many held kingdoms"? That reminds me also, why create a kingdom for 100 prestige (i think) when suddenly half of your vassals will instantly want to get it? or that "wants the kingdom of XXX" modifier appears even if the kingdom is not created?

Thanks all, Im relatively new to CK2 :p

If you own all the counties as your personal, no point in creation, you are right. Small prestige bonus is negligible. There also is the strategy of keeping all your vassals as 1 province counts, i.e. having them weak (but amount of micromanagement is little higher).

Creation of kingdom is useful if you need de jure claims. Otherwise, it is recommended to de jure drift the duchies into your main kingdom first, and then create it. The second kingdom becomes titular and will just give you prestige (i.e. no de jure vassals under it that want it for themselves).

I have found (although runnign CK2+) that I cannot get de jure claims from a Kingdom if the duchy doesn't exist. Usurpation isn't needed, but the duchy has to exist in the world for me to be able to press a Kingdom claim.

Could be CK2+ related though, don't have time right now to check the script files, and I'm at work now so I can't just boot up the game :(

It really depends on where you are at the food chain. If your highest title is a king, multiple dukes can be hard to please. However, if you're an emperor, create duchies, give them to problematic vassals, and give the de jure kingdom to another vassal. What was originally your problem became your king-vassal's problem.

This is very interesting. How do you acctually drift them? is it automatically over time?

Since nowadays you can only give landed titles to people on your court, duchies aren´t THAT important anymore. In older versions, giving duchies was a nice way to get people to join your court =/

You can grant such 100% private duchy to a character whose county you want to revoke (without the lower titles of course).

You will then be able to select a plot to revoke one of his counties.

Also at Medium+ CA you can give it to a count who is not your direct vassal to make him one ... for example if he is stat worthy to become your councillor.

This is very interesting. How do you acctually drift them? is it automatically over time?

If you (or your vassals) control every county in a duchy and the duchy title is not controlled by an outsider the duchy will over 100 years drift into your main kingdom if you are a king and the duchy is not in the de jure of any of your personally controlled kingdoms.
