You would have to advance the timeline to the Clan invasion for these things and it seems like the consensus in this thread is that the game should stay in the pre-invasion period as long as possible. I would like it if my dropship would give me close air support though and stepping on infantry could be fun too.
They are all lostech. Meaning they could exist, but would be very rare, just like the ER and pulse weapons.

All we can do is speculate on that. There are a couple ways we can try and check, but I question their reliability. The best indication of Battletech's success will be whether they will continue developing it and it looks like they are going to keep going as far as I can tell.

Have they said anything about developing more Battletech after Heavy Metal? I definitely assume they will.

I have not heard or read anything about what is planned for BATTLETECH beyond Heavy Metal and that is the reason why I started this thread.

The answer to your thread lies in the sales of the season pass. (Although regardless of the sales, I could imagine that we'll get a Clans sequel some years down the line because the potential sales of having the iconic Timberwolf in it will be too hard to pass up on.) Without having any knowledge about how sales of Battletech are going, the following three scenarios could be imagined:

  1. Worst-case scenario: The sales of the season pass cratered and Paradox doesn't want to continue supporting the game or potential sequels, so all projects are put on hold and cancelled.
  2. Middle-case scenario: The sales of the season pass are lukewarm or mediocre. A potential sequel is greenlighted in order to see if sales can be increased by having iconic Clan mechs and more features and content in the sequel
  3. Best-case scenario: The sales of the season pass are great and Paradox want to continue supporting Battletech. A dedicated team makes more DLC for the current Battletech, while another team makes pre-production for a big sequel featuring the Clan mechs.

Plans for BATTLETECH after 2019?

With the purchase of HBS by Paradox, Kickstarters don’t seem to be in the BATTLETECH picture moving forward. I’ll miss the opportunity for HBS Big Stompy MERCH that BATTLETECH’s original Kickstarter offered.

Season pass + individual buying of the DLC's. Not everybody buy the season pass.

Was that a reply to me? I thought it was implicit that I was referring to both season apss and individual DLCs. I thought it would be too pedantic to have to write out both...

I did not have enough to buy the season pass when it first came out, but I have bought the two expansions separately and it does not make any sense for me to buy the season pass now, since Heavy Metal will be less than the season pass. Yes, I know that "in success anything is possible". Like I have said before though, I have not seen much in the way of advertising for BATTLETECH or the expansions after the Kickstarter, in fact I have never seen a BATTLETECH ad before a Youtube video even though I go to this forum and many other BATTLETECH related sites daily.

Isn't that why they are work with steam and other sites to get the game out to those most likely to be interested in it? Mind you I'm not a marketer but that would seem a better choice of their marketing budget than generic ads.

if it's any consolation, the trailers for Urban Warfare on Youtube have between 1.2 and 2 million views. And that's far and above the highest numbers, even higher than Mechwarrior 5's highest view count for its trailers.

Isn't that why they are work with steam and other sites to get the game out to those most likely to be interested in it? Mind you I'm not a marketer but that would seem a better choice of their marketing budget than generic ads.

The way you get exposure these days is also by getting the game into the hands of "influencers"*, aka Youtube dudes who will stream the game for their audiences. But this is the domain of Paradox after they became publishers and I think they've been doing an admirable job, considering the viewcount of these trailers. 2 million views in Urban Warfare's release trailer for a niche strategy game like Battletech is pretty good.

*I of course mean mainstream influencers with a large amount of followers.

I'm hoping CohhCarnage also has a stream for MechWarrior 5, like he did for HBS's BT. I enjoyed watching his playthrough of BT before launch.

I'm sure NGNG TV will have a lot of streaming on it a long with Baradul before launch. I know these are relatively small fish in the grand scheme of YouTube and Twitch, but it will still help get the game in the minds of players.

Someone like Cohh would be nice just because it will reach outside of the usual BT community. Hopefully PGI will arrange something like him (or him) to reach out a little farther into the gamer space.

it would be good to have big streamers on it that aren't just Mechwarrior / Battletech fans already. Who's popular these days and into strategy games? Angry Joe maybe? Jim Sterling? I suck at these things.

I know SidAlpha is a MW fan and has somewhat of an outreach.

I know that Angry Joe did play MechWarrior: Tactics at some point. His channel also reviewed BattleTech when it came out as well (I think Dell reviewed it in a Quick-Fire review). I think that Joe's channel would at least have a Quick-Fire review of MechWarrior 5, but as for a stream, IDK. I think he might stream on Twitch, so maybe there. I'm not as familiar with his streaming habits.

Jim Sterling might do an 'Impressions' video or a review. He does a few of those, however I think his actual reviews tend to be more geared towards larger titles. It might get an Impressions though. Part of me wishes he would skip MW5, but that's just because he tends to be unpredictable. He is a showman to say the least, and sometimes he likes to stir the pot for entertainment. Don't get me wrong, I like Jim's content, I just don't always agree with his opinion or how he does things.

I think that SidAlpha will DEFINITELY cover MW5. I think there will be a review and also I think he will stream it. Sid is part of a BattleTech Table Top campaign on Twitch. He also reviewed HBS BattleTech, and also has the Metal cover of BT Animated Series as the song for his channel. He is a huge fan.

There are some smaller channels that will have good coverage too. We got Critical Rocket, NGNG TV, Black Pants Legion (Tex), Baradul, and Shivaxi.

Lore Reloaded is a channel that covers a lot of Star Trek and other SciFi, and he has been making more BattleTech Lore videos as of late (collaborating with Tex from Black Pants Legion). That might help get the word out to people that might not normally play or know of BattleTech.

It's small stuff, but hopefully it helps get the word out.

Angry Joe and Total Biscuit (R.I.P.) played MWO against each other, but let us please not mention the horrible fraudulent fiasco that was Tactics. I actually spent some money on Tactics and I still feel completely ripped off. The interesting thing, though, was that when "IGP" went bankrupt, someone bought what was left of Tactics during the auction suspiciously close to the announcement of BATTLETECH...so I wonder. If HBS were the ones who bought what was left of Tactics to get a head start on making BATTLETECH, then I am ok with that, though. And it did give them a good selling point for the Kickstarter when they did mention how other BATTLETECH games may have given a bad impression.

Mmm...I admit I could be wrong, but I believe that HBS has stated it wasn't them that bought up the Tactics license.

I was lucky to have passed on that game. At the time I wasn't as interested in playing a more tactical game (I was happy with the FPS/Sim style of MechWarrior). I do remember that it didn't last long. Bummer that you were so burned by it :(.

Back in the day they'd use game review magazines to market it. Now they've found that folks on YouTube/Twitch/etc. are cheaper.

Marketing has always been with us.

I'm old too, and heck, I'm so nostalgic I still have my Nintendo Power magazines from my NES days :D.

The good thing about YouTubers that play the games (like Cohh), is that you can actually watch the game in action and see how it plays. It is easier to see first hand if it look like a game I might like. The old ways of screenshots and write-up reviews never really told the entire story. If anything, I think the reader had to trust the reviewer more in the past.

Not to mention, I have watched many YouTubers like Angry Joe for years, so I also have a grasp on what they like and how that relates to my tastes in games.

Lastly, unfortunately, more traditional games media is getting a bit...desperate and click-bait-y within the past few years. Going into anymore detail feels like it would just be too political, so to keep it simple, I just feel more alienated and disenfranchised with many of these sites, so YouTube is pretty much my goto for gaming news, games previews, and Let's Plays to help me decide what I would like to buy.
