Ave!

Now that clock is ticking towards the launch ever so slowly, I'm inviting the most noble people from these forums into a gathering!
All the people who own EU:Rome and years ago spent countless hours bashing barbarians, hiding from Seleucids, sinking Carthagian navy and conquering the world only to see your empire split into a devastating civil war, let's have the one last hurrah for the old faithful EU:Rome and share the best of memories before the Imperator takes its place in our hearts.

------

As you can see from my signature (that I've updated last time years ago...) I used to be fairly active with the game and the community, both modding and AARing (which is something I guess I should get back to...). EU:R was my first Paradox game which I got as DVD retail version from a store chain that has since been bankrupt for years.
The Vae Victis expansion was released at some point and the launcher was advertising a patch for it. I, being a teenage kid who barely spoke english, didn't really understand the difference between a patch and the expansion itself so I downloaded the patch and was puzzled as I couldn't install it.
Well.. Wave enters the forums and finds a person who's signature said "A patch is never late! Nor is it ever early. It arrives precisely when I mean it to do!" so obviously this guy must know something. I DM'd him about my trouble of installing the "expansion" and even got a reply and only long time later realized who my first forum contact actually was.

It was Johan.

Yes, that @Johan

Ps. I did eventually find out that I need to buy the expansion pack too and later got it

EU:Rome was the first Paradox game I played. In 2010, after playing the Total War games for a couple of years, I was looking for similar games and so bought EU3, CK1 and EU:Rome in a sale. I played one long Scottish campaign in CK1 and Rome, Epirus, Carthage and Egypt in EU:Rome but I mainly concentrated on EU3 and then found out CK1 was getting a sequel so CK1 fell by the wayside.

CK2 went on to be one of my all time favourite games and I always hoped we would also eventually get "Rome 2", and that it would have the success and support the Crusader Kings sequel has had. I did start to lose hope with each passing year but here we are, the day has come, long live Imperator: Rome!

Lets see I started out in order with Majesty, Chariots of War, Knights of Honour, GalCiv2, Birth of America, Combat Mission, Mount and Blade, and East India Company. Hearts of Iron III came out and I picked that up. That was the first time I actually realised and paid attention to the fact that so many of the games I'd played over the years were from Paradox. After that I started looking specifically for their stuff. M&B Warband/Fire and Sword, Pride of Nations, Sengoku, Majesty 2, King Arthur, Magicka probably a few more. Amongst them there were a lot of good ones and few misses here and there over the years. Then CK2 came out. Loved it. Played way too much of it. Bought the previously overlooked Vicky II because of it. Bought AoW 3, EUIV, HOI4, Stellaris, BTECH, Cities, Pillars 1/2 etc. Ever since CK2 I've probably bought all the Paradox developed and most of the published stuff. Even some stuff like War of the Vikings that I knew wasn't really my kind of game. Enjoyed it for a while anyway.

EU:Rome deeply impressed me. I have never understood why it was so underrated. It was so much better than the flagship product, Europa Universalis III. I especially liked Camara's Magna Terra mod.
