Well basic info most people know:

- About a year ago or so they (forgot who) said that they currently lack the guy in office who has a good idea and would like the challenge.
Then we got the Beta patch in december, so...who knows.


- Johan said more or less recently (two months ago or so) in a reddit discussion that they will never make such a deep
mechanic (or did he mean the general complexity of the game ? Not sure) like economics in Victoria II ever again. Well it went something like that.

So i'm not hopeful for VIC III and also fear it might be 'casualed' aka dumbed down (especially in parts where it shouldn't)
instead of more reliable tooltips or better tutorial or an ingame libary..or altogether. :D
That said i'm open to positive surprises though, dear Paradox. ;)

Then again, the economy might actually work better and be more intuitive when slightly (and only that !) simplified,
.... but i don't know. OF COURSE it depends on so many factors..:rolleyes:!

Again I don't see the problem with the mechanics being complex as long as microing is not mandatory.

I honestly feel Johan is barking up the wrong tree with his simplify everything regime. Look at EU4 did simplifying the terrain and economics make the game better? Not really. It just made it easier to game the mechanics. Rather than take intuitive decisions based on what's happening in your specific play through.

A player doesn't need to understand every rule and every computation the game does in the background, instead the player should be able to take decisions and those decisions should lead to what would rationally seem to be the outcome of said decision.
Rather than giving us, if you do this then these are the effects as event do these days they should give us a link to the wikipedia article on the decision or event we are dealing with and try to make us consider ourselves what the outcomes of taking it or ignoring it may be.

To be truly successful Victoria 3 will need proper pop and economics systems just like Vic 2. Making these two things work properly is the very skeleton of Victoria and without them is it not Victoria, but a cheap copy.
So long as Victoria 3 still has proper population and economics it should be good.

However after seeing the last few games I am starting to very much believe that they do not have the will to make such a game again.

I am inclined to agree with you, hence why I fear that the total war games may in time eclipse paradox GSGs as historical simulation. Or there may come some new indie game which fills the niche. I really don't see why paradox is abandoning a niche they are basically alone in to head into some boardgame simulator niche which is much more filled.

Nah, the Total War games have become worse at historical simulation with every game, and it seem they are now interested in other niches than history, which is fine.

It was Wester I believe who said that Victoria lacked an internal champion to use his words. Then Podcat made a corollary to that statement saying that there was no internal champion that wasn't busy on another project. Podcat at the time was working on HoI4. Now that HoI4 is in Post-Launch, my belief is that Wester probably approached Podcat to do some informal organizing for VicIII, like coming up with a list for potential team members for the project, making a design board for an official proposal for the project, among other things.

I don't expect Podcat to move on to VicIII officially until at least the fir HoI4 DLC is released and the game moves past post-launch. I then don't expect us to hear much until late 2017 early 2018 at the minimum due to their new found desire not to announce games until late into development.

Or I'm complete bullshit and they announce it at Gamescom 2016 or the opposite happens. Who knows? Wester knows.

I started getting interest in Victoria 2. HoI looks too much war-centered and I always turn away. I love EU4 but it's a conquest game in the end and it's not as deep as I think Victoria is about politics, economics and society/populations. I'm probably buying vic2 but I'd like to play the latest game of a series because I like games supported by constant development, I'm confident devs this way get the series improved. At least this is what I think happened to the eu serie or does anyone think eu4+expansions ruined the heart of eu? I hope a fresh new Victoria (Vic3 or new dlc + patch for vic2 is announced).
