There are atm no modding tools, the thread of a user who made unpack utilities was deleted from forum because when it has no "OK" from the devs it is not allowed.

So we must wait for official modding tools, i hope we get some in time.

Paradox unfortunately funds their games to the bare minimum. "features" like you know, a completed game, with a finalized manual, are not what they do. So more advanced features like mod support are not likely to happen. Not that it cant be done, the new DLC is a mod essentially, just that paradox is more likely to want to charge for all the content than see the community make content for free.

That is totally bull. Have you looked into some of the other subforums? Magma Mundi essential started as a mod for EU III. Paradox have a great modding community and have always been supportive about modding.

The problem about modding this game as far as I have understod is that where many of the in house produced games are made to be able to read .txt files and chamge the game based upon them, this game have not. Why it haven't I am not sure, but it seems to be hinted that it was to improve performance.

If the game can't be modded with simple text we can either unpack it, mod it, repack it or get a real modding tool.
As Ino properly have bought certain parts of the code there will be legal issues about unpacking to repack as that leave code patented by another firm open.
Inos programmers properly have a modding tool they use to mod the game, but as most of us aren't hardcore programmers we would properly want a simplified version (Again there may be legal problems with them handeling it directly to us) So what we want is either that the program be rewritten to accept .txt files as most other paradox games or Ino making a modding tool for us. Either way it is something that will take time for them to make and currently they are working toget the multiplayer part working.

At least that is the problem as I have understod it.

What I was getting at is that ive yet to play a single paradox game that felt as it was completed, and not just a paid for beta. Granted my exposure to their games may be limited, but last one I tried was Sword of the Stars 2 and that was one of the most incomplete launches in history. So if the base feature set like even a manual doesnt get completed, a more advanced feature set like modding is probably way down the line, if planned at all. And I dont consider changing values in a txt file modding. I call that just tweaking, and as you pointed out even that is not something we can do. Bundling a txt/ini/config file into a compressed file to make things "faster" is nonsense as such a file would have a non impact on the performance of the game, regardless of where it was. Simply put it just didnt get done/finished, like so many other things. So I wouldnt hold my breath on mods any time soon.

Did you read the referenced thread? Paradox has no objections to the idea, and Ino-Co doesn't object either. Which makes it a question of time/resources, but not "unplanned."

Amusingly, you mention SotS2. While the launch will hopefully go down as the worst in history (so all others henceforth will be better), it has had modding options from the start. .txt tweaking is possible, and ship textures have been altered by the Modders over there. In the Modding forum for a Paradox published game. And as for SotS Prime, people created their own 3d models for ships, unique weapons (and effects)... again, a game that Paradox published from the 3rd expansion onward.

@ Annex

I think you got caught on the worst day for showers without an umbrella. That was to my mind the worst launch for a Pdx game I can recall.
About providing the provision to allow for modding any games, this is a 3rd party title... i.e. the engine and subsequent s/w isnt owned by Paradox. So I imagine they basically just paid for the development of the game, as is.

Therefore I imagine that any sane person will wait to see if the project is a success or not before throwing more cost in time and effort at it. Could you blame such a group/company for doing so?

Anyways given that there are plans for MP and modding tools, Id say that Pdx have responded albeit more slowly than all of us would want to see. Lets just keep hoping that the Warlock community continues to grow so that more funding of additional features and the rest of it continues.

@Annex I haven't tried Sword of the stars, but CK II is properly one of the most well polished games I have tried at publish and I have yet to buy a PI game that didn't resive upgrades as time went by.

And I dont consider changing values in a txt file modding. I call that just tweaking, and as you pointed out even that is not something we can do.

Take a look at the mods mades in the EU3 forum. The mods you can get from writting some text files are pretty extreme.
