Hmm.. well overall I have to say i'm really enjoying the new DLC.. lots of new stuff to play around with. Really enjoying the couple of new songs as well, as some one who usually played as steppe hordes I have to say they've made it all the more challenging.. as where before I could roll in any direction and utterly annihilate anything in my path i'm now forced to reckon with an emperor/empress. Just in my newest Uyghur start I was forced... by invasion to become a tributary state under the emperor and his governor - retained my title and am now in the process of schmoozing it up with the emperor so I can see what powerful boons I can get. I didn't think I would like this DLC but I really am glad I bought it.

867 start in Tibet. As long as my vassals and Capital are in the same De Jure Empire (which they are as De Jure Tibet exists) then the De Jure modifier to calc max levy should never be less than 35%. However, I'm still seeing a De Jure modifier of 25%, which I don't think should be possible. It's only a handful of troops defference, but it's more the theory, especially if it scales.

Got an Expansionist, Golden Age China in all of my first three games within 100 years of starting. So much for 1 in 10 (not that I mind trying to fight off the Dragon's huge armies)

Before I get too involved in my current campaign, what would folks say is the best bookmark for playing Bon in Tibet? I'm currently using 1066.
Tip: Get the southern realms within the empire (Nepal and such) relatively early before the large Indian realms can conquer or tributize them. Made that mistake and I have some issues with the counties I need either being under the Indians of the Western Protectorate

Seems to work fine with older saves (once you hit unpause and the empty regions populate...!)

Found a couple of the new provinces (so far) with names which were strings (which I'm save-editing to fix).

Considering I was not expecting for this to work at all (as I was conflating EUIV's emphatic "won't be compatible" for CoC with JD), this is fantastic!

Heck, Rome even now has more stuff to conquer! (I was beginning to think I might accidently WC out of boredom... Actually, the only reason I have not expanded into India is I'm waiting for the Aztec penny to drop...!

Does appear to have been a bit of a stealth change: Pikes (at the least) appear to have had a retinue cap change (2 => 2.5), since I am suddenly well over my retinue cap, and I could not find (with a search) find anything in the patch notes, so, others may have been altered too.

I'm really enjoying its so far. The Expanded silk road is nice, but I rarely see much use out of it. My only issue is that all of Finland and Estonia are tributaries of the western protectorate, and no one else is... Apart from that I'm having a blast.

Yeah, China's range might be a bit much (seriously, Finland? Unless the rule is set to unlimited, that shouldn't be happening) and their status shifts will probably need to be rebalanced.

As expected for a DLC launch TBH.

They did just decice to have a go at Sri Lanka (or whatever nation it's called at that specific moment in my save), which gave me quick giggle...

Yeah China's range does seem a bit to much. Even with the Restricted Diplo Range Rule being on.
Highlighted the Tributaries of the western protectorate. ATM these are the ONLY Tributaries of the Western protectorate (Though it is at war with the Tibetan kingdom of Xia to make it a Tributary). Don't know how they got all the way to the Baltic but it's a good laugh.

But apart from this it's pretty good.

Imho, the only ones that should be able to interact with China are the realms that have a county which the silk road passes through.

I wonder who thought: "hey, let's do high-learning book, that character would write some years, and put uninspired debuff, and give -20% fertility, because that's cool!"?

Uninspired just means you can't immediately write another book
Yes, I know. That means that you'll have a book that gives +2 Learning and -20% Fertility, and wouldn't be able to write another one for 20 years.

So I booted up my old Zunbil save.
ECYguQE.jpg

So far I've gone through 3 Chinese emperors, all of them having the Open China policy. They have been very rude, and I have been invaded 4 times by them. Each time I had to deal with some 150.000 soldiers. Chinese armies are non-attritionable, which is somewhat annoying, but I assume it's to make them more challenging.

bSQpyeu.jpg

I have not accumulated much grace with the Emperor of China. Maybe he stops liking me every time I kill his soldiers. I have been dealing with quite a few rebellions (The small non-me blobs are what's left of an independence rebellion that I failed to squash) so I have not been able to invade China yet. I hope soon I will be able to do this. I am somewhat scared of how many troops I will have to deal with then, but it sure can't be worse than the tribal revolt I had to deal with when I converted to Islam (And their 300.000 non-attritionable warriors).

So far I really like the expansion!

I've played as the ruler of Mecca first so that I don't have to jump into too many new mechanics besides trying out the new Silk Road system, diplomacy with China and testing the new Arabian peninsula. China seems to spiral a bit out of control at the earliest starting date, probably because of it already starting with unrest within the empire. However, so far they've been pretty fun to communicate with.

One 'problem' I have is that it's actually not too difficult to harvest several artifacts from China. On top of that if you own several silk road provinces (I own three directly with Mecca as a trading post province, and a vassal of mine owns a silk road province too) you will be swimming in money after you've stabilized your position and I can now just summon smiths to make beautiful treasures for the ruler of Hijaz. After only a few years playing the game I've ended up with an amazing scimitar, a Tang Dynasty (I believe) bracelet, a formal Chinese robe and a book on Chinese medicine. I've come to a point where I'm thinking of giving all my ten sons their own swords.

So I went and did the thing with the invasion of China.

The size of their army was not as huge as I expected. I was told that China in this time period could mobilize millions upon millions of troops. Thankfully I only had to fight one 175.000 troops deathstack and a further 50.000 troops deathstack as reinforcements.
They disembarked as they always do, in Bengal, and proceeded to march north through the Tibetan plateau into the Steppes. Problematic, what with their non-attritionable nature, since I had to follow them into terrible terrain, but I handled it eventually.

As for the aftermath... There wasn't nearly as much fanfare as I had expected. I had really psyched myself up for the ultimate struggle of Ck II. Something close in scope to "Myklos Horthy and the Habsburg Prince" in HoI IV, but it wasn't nearly as terrifying.

Now I will get around to playing a bit with the boons I can ask for my daught... The Chinese Empress.
