(I know there are probably a million threads on this, idc)
Idk, I feel like the Rise of Islam (630'ish AD) would be a really cool bookmark, I know some (or a lot) of people are against it, but I mean: Charlemagne wasn't in the era of feudalism, so I don't see why not.

What could this add:
- Some sort of bureaucracy mechanic
- Religious conversion expanded
- Sassanids
- Possibly fix the great schism and make a united Christianity (something Charlemagne didn't do)
- Expand the silk road further
- Expand Zoroastrianism

It's just an idea, feedback would be appreciated.

Getting Charlemagne to work barely works, Muhammad (PbuH) would be near impossible.
Basically everybody's counterargument against this - it'd just represent most of the map terribly, in a game that already represents most of the map terribly.

You should check out a mod called When the World Stopped Making Sense. It starts even earlier than what you asked for (around the fall if the Western Roman Empire in 476 CE), and includes mechanics for the rise of Islam IIRC.

I don't think that Paradox will be pushing the start date back any earlier as 769 was already heavily criticized.

the migration era does not transfer well into ck2s mechanics, then as previous commentors have posted theres the whole mess involving mohammed
Edit: Also the great schism doesn't happen till 1054, paradox just never bothered to merge orthodox and Catholicism in the earlier starts

A fix to the Schism that didn't happen yet in the 769 start and a possibility of having some of the Reformed Pagan religions have Schisms of their very own. Like some kind of Germanic schism that can arise if a Female Fylkir were to happen or a docrinal split that could happen if Rome is West African. Something to cause heart arche to the Reformed Pagans if they are crushing Chrindom and the Caliphates too hard.

that pagan schism idea sounds amazing, is there any mods that have that

damn, i was thinking that schism would work like post reformation heresies, appearing after an event happened and everyone has a chance to choose one, but i cant mod for shit
The usual pagan reformation really doesn't add anything, it just uses the old unreformed pagan religion for the "Old" version.

Charlemagne was already pushing it with anachronistic mechanics, I really wouldn't want something even earlier,
On a slightly unrelated note, I think the whole period between the decline of the western roman empire and the Crusader Kings timeline deserves it's own standalone game.

A DLC could add "Schism" Pagan faiths that could "Appear" if sertain conditions are met, they would exist but would be like the Aztec Faith in that it can show up when the Aztec do but is otherwise nonexistant.

The Jarls of India Mod had an Indo-Norse "religion" that could pop up in an event but it wasn't a Schism that spread beyond Count/Duke/King/Emporer that got said event.

TBH I think an official 1000CE or mid 10th century bookmark would be far cooler - there's a lot happening across the map. A few mods have them but they are pretty unpolished in areas, simply because of the huge amount of content to be researched and generated.

As others have mentioned, attempting to represent Mohammed is just asking for trouble.

A bookmark with the Black Death would have been an obvious and easy thing to add in the patch, it's a little disappointing that it did not make it into the game.
Another in 1000AD would have also made sense, since it's when you can have conflict between the Free and the Papal Investiture.

But a bookmark before 769 ? Why ? There is already plenty of stuff the devs can add for the period of time we currently have, no need to stretch it further, making the mecanics of the game even less accurate

I'd rather have a Bookmark for 1000 AD, or even a Bookmark for 1135, as that would include the English Succession War between Maud and Stephen of Blois
