Hey everyone,
Relatively new player here. About 600 hours or so. Great game. My favorite power to play is...Germany! I have played many 33 start games through all the way as Germany. Each time changing it up to make it a bit more difficult. I seem to have met my match with playing as Germany on hard mode, no full IC Take over and no full tech take over. I follow the usual historical events all the way up to Barbarossa kick off, sometimes starting the war with Poland earlier in spring of 39 if I am ready. However, I have yet to defeat the USSR at this level. Any thoughts, tips or strategies on how to take on the endeavor would be much appreciated.
Typically I look for 2-3 large encirclement in spring of 41 by breaking through at three points and driving deep into USSR territory with panzers and Motorized Infantry while the foot infantry finishes off the 100+ Divisions encircled in 2-3 different pockets. My invasions forces consist of 6-7 panzer divisions breaking through at 3 points, followed up with 30-40 motorized infantry divisions to exploit the breakthrough and about 200 Infantry divisions (give or take) to slog behind. I use a mix of 1 militia for every 2 infantry in blocks of 3 each. My allies consist of Italy (Although ½ of their divisions are always tied up in Africa), Finland, Hungary, Romania, Bulgaria, Greece, Turkey, and most of the time Spain.
At normal difficulty settings this strategy works all the time, and at times is even boring. The USSR sometimes falls within a matter of months. Even with No full IC take over and no tech take over I find that his strategy usually has the USSR defeated before winter of 41/42 sets in. However, now that I have notched it up to a hard difficulty setting I seem to constantly run into a brick wall of soviet divisions. My initial breakthroughs are rarely able make a full encirclement and I inevitably get bogged down by winter. Any thoughts on how to modify this strategy for a hard difficulty setting would be much appreciated. Is it even possible to beat the Soviet Union at this setting?
