I have started up IR as Rome about four times now since Marius, and all these campaign starts had one thing in common, Antigonids always conquered Macedon, and the breakup of The Antigonid Kingdom does not happen as one would expect. Also, the clash of Diadochis tends to leave pieces of Egypt and Selecuids all over Asia Minor.

Perhaps this is something worth looking over in a upcoming patch? It doesn´t bother me that much accept for my wish to be able to face off with Macedon as Rome.

I don't mind that the Antigonids conquer Macedon - I mean, they did - but that the conquest is nearly always incomplete. They leave some rump of Macedon out in tribal hill terrain, which prevents them from themselves forming Macedon, which is obviously not ideal. I've found it to be a toss-up though. Sometimes they do, sometimes they don't, and sometimes they don't, get reduced to pathetic holdings in Greece after being partitioned, THEN conquer Macedon. It's way more dynamic than it was before (Phrygian Blob Conquers All). I do wish we got less bordergore between Egypt and Seleukids though, which is partially because of the way the Alexandrian succession wars work.

but could also be resolved with a Hegemony sphere of influence mechanic which would be useful to stir up war between majors - see also Rome and Carthage.

I don’t think they do.

I have played quite a few games since the release of 2.0 and in most of them the Antigonids were broken up, only in one or two did they survive in Macedon/Greece, and in one they survived after avoiding war with Egypt and the Seleucids.

In my current 2.0 game, the Antigonids were reduced to an island city state on Aigina, after which they have seemingly been forgotten by everyone. Kind of poetic for a dynasty that once aspired to rule all of Alexander's empire.

In my latest Egypt game, I ate nearly all of Antigonids, with some Seleukids sneaking to Anatolia and Thrace to gore my borders. Stupid Seleukos, he should have focused on Maurya, now I probably have to annihilate them to get that last piece of Alexander's gear.

I left their last territory, that tiny piece of land in Achaea Egypt starts with and they wasted time siegeing, to take some of their subjects as my own. First time they did not crush Macedon before dying since 2.0 for me.

Yeah, this is the problem. It's a not a big deal if Antigonids conquer macedon, the problem is when they don't finish the job. Also the border gore left over after the diadochi wars is truly disgusting. The current systems for resolving border gore seems completely useless most of the time.
Most of Egypt's army was trapped in Palmyran exclave in my Judea game surrounded by Seleukids and me. Macedon ate upper Egypt without opposition. Then once I declared on them and routed that army into a couple of river territories in Mesopotamia, unable to make it back, I was able to easily claim the Nile delta for my nascent Hebrew empire.

There's a system for resolving bordergore? Where is it hiding?!

I just did an Antigonid to Hellenic empire playthrough, and to me it looks like the AI doesn't use the legacy of Alexander war goal at all

It kind of seems to me like the design of the various Diadochi events work out to be pretty anti Antipatrid. They get an unavoidable health penalty and a semi-scripted civil war. Some will point out that this is reflecting of history, but the game makes it somewhat common for the Antigonid kingdom to avoid their historical fate (yes, they eventually came to power in Macedon, but only after basically getting their kingdom destroyed in Phrygia).

Yes, it is very anti Antipatrid; and that's good. Most of the time even if the Antigonids conquer all of macedon, the "antigonid cause wavers" event will still fire and they'll lose most of their empire.

I don't mind that the Antigonids conquer Macedon - I mean, they did - but that the conquest is nearly always incomplete. They leave some rump of Macedon out in tribal hill terrain, which prevents them from themselves forming Macedon, which is obviously not ideal. I've found it to be a toss-up though. Sometimes they do, sometimes they don't, and sometimes they don't, get reduced to pathetic holdings in Greece after being partitioned, THEN conquer Macedon. It's way more dynamic than it was before (Phrygian Blob Conquers All). I do wish we got less bordergore between Egypt and Seleukids though, which is partially because of the way the Alexandrian succession wars work.

but could also be resolved with a Hegemony sphere of influence mechanic which would be useful to stir up war between majors - see also Rome and Carthage.
