Anschluss

I am new to Hearts of Iron and love it. I've played several times and am now in my second play through as Germany. I can't figure out how to meet the requirements of the Anschluss National Focus. The Wiki has not been helpful. Can anyone help me with this?

you only have a certain number of German troops on the battlefield and have chosen the path to remilitatize the Rhine

also if you hover over that approach it specifies the requirements to do it

The Wiki is pretty specific:

Requires the following:
Rhineland focus
Is fully independent
At least 500.00K Manpower in divisions in the field
Does not have the national spirit: Rhineland Challenge Met

Just build a bunch of 20 width Infantry units with low equipment priority to reach the limit early on. You will need them to guard your ports anyway.

Naw, just train until you have 5 Army XP then create a 2w Infantry Template. Train a bunch of those and convert them to your current Infantry template...presto you have the 500k+ men in the field (since all it cares about is the men in the field, not if they have any guns or not) for that and all of the other NF that require x+ men in the field.

Just be careful that you're looking at the correct number for "Manpower in divisions in the field".

Select Army Overview, Equipment Details, and it's the number at top left:

I've been hovering away and still can't activate the Anschluss National Focus. I meet all the requirements except I'm not sure what Does not have National Spirit Rhineland . I have a little over 500,000 active troops, and I have occupied the Rhineland. When I occupied the Rhineland there was no reaction from France or anyone else.

That spirit gets given to you free of charge if France and England [or just France] opposes your re-entry into the Rhineland. You took one of two focuses there - either Rhineland, or Oppose Hitler. If you took the latter, there will be no Anschluss option.

That's very gamey though, to get your neighbours frightened by tons of unarmed men.
