I'm sure this has been asked before, but I can't find the answer.

Once the ToT event has fired, what happens if Spain annexes Portugal or vice versa? Do both sets of shields disappear, or just those of the annexed country? What if the annexed country is later released as a vassal?

And another thing: has anyone ever annexed a country using only the ToT? What are the consequences?

To your first question, it just makes the ToT invalid, I think. The shields will still be there, but there is no effect, I think.

To the second question, I don't know. I'd imagine if you could convert a native nation to Catholocism you should be able to take all their provinces, their capital I'm less sure of.

You don't need the ToT to annex a country, you can already march into any American native country and annex it in one go if you control all the provinces. You can do this because they are pagan.

So ToT or no ToT, there are no consequences in annexing a native American country.

But with ToT you don't need to dow to take provinces. So what happens to catholic aztecs when I take their capital as Spain though we are at peace? Has anyone tried?

Ah, but if, say, France tried to force-annex a native American country which had converted to Catholicism for whatever reason, they'd face the usual penalties (can't annex unless 1 province, BB, reduced relations with other catholics, stab loss for DOW on same religion) - so it could make a big difference in some circumstances.

You can, in fact, take out entire pagan countries that are forceconverted using the TOT, while not at war. Or at least, I seem to recall having done it to the Aztecs once.

Catholic Aztec? I've never ever seen a native american country (or any pagan country for that matter) converts their state religion. Are you sure they can do it?

They have random events for that AND you can force-convert any pagan.

I have a problem with the TOT with Portugal. Uruguay (a good grain province) has my shield on it, but Spain walks in and takes it over. I then walk back in and take it when they leave but then I get the +3 nationalism penalty. I have to then fortify it, so Spain don't just waltz in again and nick it.
Its right on the border, so it might be both ours? . Although it is my shield.

I think there are indeed a few provinces there that infact have BOTH shields, but only one shows. Fortifying indeed is a good solution (they'll probably not march to it again, but still....

I have tried the ToT thing using the EEP, where the Incas can become Catholic, and did in this game. I could walk in and take over, and the capital relocates just like normal.
