Another straightforward, boring DLC focus tree

I've thoroughly enjoyed HoI4 since release, as HoI3 was always too daunting for me to get into, but the Focus Trees in this game have been nothing short of boring.

Each DLC continues the same thing, either adding Focus Trees, or Focus Trees with some new mechanics. The mechanics have been acceptable, but the trees are all the same. Generic PP focus, Generic Military Tree, Generic Naval, Generic Air, Generic Remove Industry debuff, Generic remove army debuff, and have a few War Goals just for fun and blob.

This is what happens when a game STARTS with no depth, there's nothing to really be worked on, so they have to all work around one thing- focus trees. Reworked nations should have reworked mechanics and such, currently every nation is almost exactly the same, besides modifiers.

I've applied for a DLC refund, because this was just sad..

I hope others get a kick out of this DLC and enjoy it, but I can't, and I can't really enjoy HoI in general anymore, even with the brilliant work modders have done.

If countries didn't have political power focuses, military focuses, industrial/military focuses/wargoals etc. they would all be very boring. If you've been playing HOI since HOI3, you should realize that focus trees are this game's way of representing the historical (or ahistorical) flow of events, which naturally included countries attempting to strengthen themselves in preparation for WWII. Since focus trees represent the flow of events and because countries without focus trees are not really represented accurately at all, it only makes sense that improvements to the game would revolve around adding more focus trees.

I'm obviously talking about how they're all generic, offering minimal difference outside of the bonuses being slightly different. There's no real flavor, just clicking and waiting for a focus to finish isn't exactly interesting gameplay, hence why my entire post was about mechanics needing to be focussed on instead of these trees.

That I can agree with to an extent. It can honestly be very boring just waiting for time to pass on 5-speed. In Victoria II you can adjust your money, try to stake out a sphere of influence, watch your demographics change over time, build up your forts/railroads, and invest/build factories while you wait for your wargoals or your infamy to decay. For many countries in HOI4 there's literally nothing to do sometimes in the early game. Victoria II has its problems but it has a much more engaging peacetime.
