Hello,

I’m quite new to Paradox games and especially to EU3, and I decided to play Minamoto first (I know, not the best idea, but I Iike Japan). My Problem is, that my Prestige reached a High at about 27 (after Marriages, Alliances etc. with the other Daimyos, so that I had 100 Shogun Influence) and after that it has gone down continuosly. I can't stop it. I know, I have to do some actions against this, but I don't know how. I have read the EU3-Wiki and the Prestige-FAQ in this Forum (but probably not good enough).

In the beginning it was like that

24.8 Prestige and being the Shogun

What I have done on day One was:

Court: Advisors: Production Efficiency +6% / Monthly Stability Investment +9% / National Manpower Modifier +8%
Economy: Treasury 2.0. This way Balance is 0.0
Stablity Slider to Maximum
Military : Naval Maintenance 0
Religion: nothing
Government: Centralisation Slider
Leaders: Convert Ruler to General
Culture: nothing
Missions and Decisions: nothing

Royal Marriage proposals with each of the three other Daimyos

CoT in Kyoto: Autosend Priority green
CoT in Nanjing: Autosend Priority yellow

November 1399
All three Royal Marriages
Prestige: 27
Shogunate Influence 70
March 1400
Stability increased to 2
August 1400
Stability increased to 3 by Event
Magistrates for “National Epics”
January 1401
Prestige 27.21
January 1402
Prestige 25.88
April 1402
Prestige 25.56

As you can see, my Prestige deteriorates slowly and I simply don't know what to do against this. Btw: Around 1401 I made the Shogunate Decision: “Enforce Sankin Kotai”. Do you think that was o.k.?
Should I annex Okinawa ASAP?
Should I claim the Throne in Tachibana or Fujiwara?
How can I improve my relationships with Fujiwara and Tachibana further?

Thank you very much for your help!

Thanks for replying. I should have mentioned it: I am aware of the 'natural decline' of Prestige.

hire a 5 or 6 star philosopher (you need at least 90% cultural tradition, better more if you wanna have 6 stars)

he will give you 2,5 / 3 % prestige every year

there are also some nice prestige events when ur playing in japan afaik

My cultural tradition is 44% at its best (and - well - it has a natural decline to it)
There is probably no way to trigger such events, right?

use "comission paintings" for every magistrate you use, you get 5% cultural tradition
and care not to mislick "endorse culture" sucks you get 8% ct but a heavy prestige loss....

other ways of getting lots of cultural tradition:

Patron of the Arts NI
Gilded Iconography decision which you can enact when you get Church Attendance Duty NI

but I think Iconography is only available for christian nations

in mid/late game:
build Fine Arts Academies in provinces which have grain or wool as trade goods they are expensive but already 1 academy gives 1% CT every year

On second thought: I think, I have seen my CT declining. Well, maybe that's an other newbie-has-a-question-thread.

claim throne and enforce PU on all three daimyos-when you inherit them you can form japan.
