Italy's ideas are going to be the same as whatever state forms Italy, so if Venice forms Italy, Italy gets the venetian ideas...

Johan did say that:

But Johan said in another thread that if Novgorod forms Russia, Russia keeps Novgorod's ideas. It would be weird if some countries get new ideas after forming a new country, while others don't.

And correct me if I am wrong, but I think I haven't seen any dev diary that presents ideas of formable countries?

Savoy

Thanks again for that, Johan !

However, wondering why Te. Kenzo and Hargrave didn't reacted yet.

I'm wondering if we shouldn't begin to worry about them.

ONE IMPORTANT QUESTION HOWEVER!

1. Repel the French: +25% Defensiveness

Is this 1st idea directed against French only, or is this a flavor name for a generic idea permitting Savoy to gain defensivness against whichever enemy they could have?

Yeah yeah yeah... We'll see about that :p

I'd like to say it's just flavour, but I guess my advice don't matter anymore...

I guess Savoy will rapidly get a new nickname: P'tit Pimousses, petits mais costauds !

(Okay, explanations here: P'tits Pimousses are a trademark of French candies whose commercial slogan was "small but strong (in taste)" in TV advertisements in the 80's and 90's, when we French guys were in maternal or primary schoolyards...)

Savoy
eu3_SAV.gif

They start with +2 more diplomatic relations, and 25% quicker decay of bad relations.

  1. Repel the French: +25% Defensiveness
  2. The Shroud of Turin: Papal Influence +1, Prestige +0.5
  3. Mercenary Tradition: 25% Cheaper Mercenaries
  4. Crush the Vaudois: +3 Missionary Strength.
  5. Savoyard Flexibility: 10% cheaper ideas.
  6. Alpine Tolls: 10% Stronger Mercantilism
  7. Savoyard Legitimacy: +1 Yearly Legitimacy

When fully powered up, they get +10% Tax Income.

Hm... How is Savoy supposed to have any chance against France, even having +25% defensiveness? Sieges will take few more months, but if it'll come to French invasion, in EU4 terms, Savoy is lost same day war is declared.

The name is just flavor text. They would get +25% defensiveness all the time, even against non-French.

Well, you tried to take my hometown,Coni (Cuneo) a few times, but it always proved a hard nut to crack :

"Cuneo became an important stronghold of the expanding Savoy state, and was thus besieged by France several times: first in 1515 by Swiss troops of Francis I of France, then again in 1542, 1557, 1639, 1641, 1691 and, during the War of Austrian Succession, in 1741. In all the sieges Cuneo resisted successfully. "

military bonus would have been historically more correct

Well, when Savoy is being occupied 5 times by France : 1536-1553, 1600-1601, 1630-31, 1690-96 and 1703-1713. By the Spain but also by smaller nation like Bernois and Valaisans.
I'm sorry but there can hardly be strong military bonuses for it.

I would expect nation with military bonuses to win wars, it doesn't seem Savoy did win many.

But its navy was at Lepanto, Piedmontese troops fought and won against French and Spanish invading armies, and almost always won against the other italian states..
It was the only Italian state with a military focus, fighting against France and Austria made it difficult to actually win 1vs1 wars.. But for sure it was not a merchant state.

Bonus seems religious/administrative/diplomacy focus with a bit of military, trade and mercenary.
It doesn't seem to me like a merchant state (look at Venice bonuses for instance)

Thanks for you answer! Much better in this way.

Well, we had much more important things to do then, and didn't really tried...

And moreover, I'm sure that a good player can use this defensiveness the good way.

I think that's a correct view on the subject. When allied with major powers, Savoy should be a thorn in the side for France, notably if you play Savoy and get allied with Burgundy and England in the Hundred Years War. I think that's the reason why Savoy begins with a bonus of 2 free diplomatic relations.

Thanks, I didn't even remember about this ad. Thanks to god.

I'm suspecting you to be an inflitrated spy, with your level in English and now THAT!

Nice to see they've got their own NI's, I did an Italian unification game with savoy in EU3 and it was actually quite fun.

I don't totally agree with the need for military bonuses but savoy did give Europe some of it's most famous generals, problem is they never really fought for savoy (employed by austria/spain instead).
