One of my favourite countries is the Knights - and I invariably end up getting the event to become the Kingdom of Jerusalem - a name I personally dislike, especially since by the time I get it I invariably control the old Outremer provinces - Aleppo, Lebanon, Samaria, and Judea and quite a bit more besides. So possibly Outremer would be a better name. But that still doesnt feel quite right.

Anyway, the point is Im going to create a user-defined nation to use in that event instead, and Im trying to get some ideas for a more appropriate name. Lets say we control Rhodes + Outremer, and a few other Middle Eastern provinces - whats a more appropriate name for our budding little Kingdom? Palestine? Kingdom of the Levant? St. Johns Land?

Ideas appreciated!

There were no more prestigious (secular) throne in Christianity than that of Jerusalem, with the (possible?) exception of that of the HRE.

IMO it makes perfect sense to use that name as a Christian crusader state.

How about just Empire? In my game, I have it as Judean Empire (I know that it sounds lame but I ran out the ideas.)

By the way, I agree with you, that once get to a certain size, the title Kingdom doesn't feel right. I often change it to Empire.

How about The Latin Empire. I think that is what the crusaders who captured Constantinople called themselves, so its got some pedigree. Personally I would stick with Kingdom of Jerusalem, maybe translate it into latin, everything sounds better in latin.

I agree - indeed the first Crusaders thought it was even too prestigious a title for anyone to take, and simply called themselves Protectors of the Holy Places, or some such title.

What could be better than being King of Jerusalem...

Initally I have no problem with the Kingdom of Jerusalem - but Im never content to just sit on 5 provinces when the whole Moslem world is ready to fall. So I inevitably control the Middle East - at which point 'Kingdom of Jerusalem' becomes less ... appropriate.

'Jerusalem' doesnt seem to work, its a city name - not the name of the nation. I considered 'Outremer' for awhile - that could work, being essentially 'Over There' - plus it has certain 'romantic' crusader associations, which would fit with the Knights and such.

Im currently favoring Palestine, but even that doesnt feel completely right.

I often go with Regnum Hierosalma, myself.

At least, I think the proper Roman name for Jerusalem was Hierosalma. Been a few decades since I had any Latin, though, so don't hold me to it. ;)

After reading about the history of the Crusades through to the present day, I am wondering why most Western European nations don't have CB shields on Jerusalem. Even after the Crusades died down, it has been in the back of many Europeans' (and Americans') minds that Jerusalem should be theirs.

Do the Knights already have a CB shield on Jerusalem? Perhaps most Moslem states should also have a CB shield there- it seems to be one of the most fought over "provinces" in the world.

It's tricky, though- just because, say, France controls it, that shouldn't give Netherlands a CB against France; but it should give a CB to the Ottomans or to Hejaz. Maybe just give CBs to all Christian states against the Moslem holder of the province (if there is one) and CBs to all Moslem countires against the Christian holder of the province (if there is one).

I wonder if the same shouldn't be the case with Mecca and Medina, though I've never seen a Christian nation in control of either of those, except when I was the K of J.

I think there's some sort of AGC events that deal with CBs on the holy places (Rome, Jerusalem, Mecca and Medina).

As far as the name of the Knights after a bit of conquest, I'm really not sure. Perhaps supplying a few small states that could be vassal-released (Palestine, Syria for example) would be cool...
