Reminder :
I am engaged in a silly war with Spain against Turkey for years.
Persia, Spain, Mameluks and Venice are at war against Tunisia and Iraq since Persia declared war to Iraq.
August 9, 1511 : Meath and the irish rebels were defeated. I was obliged to besiege Dublin during months and the province is devastated.
A Venice expeditionnary force landed in Tunisia and battled the muslim cavalrymen. Tunis is besieged.
Turks are still besieging Bordeaux, in southern France, one of my french province. There are a little more than 15k Turks, far too much for the small 3k army hiding in Navarre.
I keep the main english army (22k) on the Scotland border and another 7k army is ready to crush any irish revolt.
September 23, 1511 : Tunisia surrender to Venice, paying indemnities. A good choice as annexion was close with Tunis besieged by the Italians.
October 17, 1511 : Turks are leaving Gascogne, embarking on ships.
Franche Comté and Spanish Lowlands are revolting once more.
November 22, 1511 : Spain lost a naval battle in the gulf of Cadiz against the muslim fleet who embarked the Turks from Gascogne.
December 24, 1511 : Iraq accepts peace with Persia, giving a province to its mighty neighbor plus some indemnities.
1512
Situation is not better than one year before. Hopefully, I will be able to repay my two loans without two much problems.
My french politic is totally compromised by the war against Turkey.
But Turks are almost out of reach for me and I'm afraid to engage new naval battles since the gulf of Cadiz disasters years ago.
I'm bound to Spain decision to stop the war.
France is gathering armies near Gascogne... Another french storm is coming...
I could loose Caux in the last war. The province used to be a good base but wasn't so vital.
The loss of Gascogne (or even worse) will reduce a decade of efforts and war to nothing.
But I'm not in position to contest France claims about Gascogne...
January 22, 1512 : The Turks refused my tribute !!! I offered them 250d as indemnities and sued for peace and they refused !!! What an insult !
April 1512 : Gascogne is revolting, Turks, once more, are rampaging across northern Spain.
September 1, 1512 : I reluctantly sent the main english army to Navarre to battle with the Turks. The newly promoted field marshal Brandon won a battle against the muslim army, killing 12000 men. His own army lost 3000 men.
Now the french rebels of Gascogne.
November 10, 1512 : colonists are leaving England to America. They will try to create the second english colony there, in Fundy.
September 23, 1512 : Tunisia and Persia agree to make peace. Return to status quo.
1513
See 1512
January 1, 1513 : as a gift for the new year, the Spanish King receives news from Franche Comté : the province declared its independance under the flag of Burgundy ! The new state and Spain are at war.
It is notable to see that Burgundy is not only composed of Franche Comté but also of Flandres ! The old House of Bourgogne is back. But will it stand against Spanish wrath ?
March 1513 : Field Marshal Brandon, Turks and french rebels of Gascogne are engaged in a crazy serie of battles against each other. It's a nice mess where everyone is attacking everyone. Navarre, Gascogne and Roussillon are devastated by that serie of battles.
May 6, 1513 : Henry VIII succeeds his agricultural reform, bringing new revenues for the kingdom.
May 16, 1513 : Russia attacks Kazan
May 23, 1513 : Turks took heavy losses by french rebels but defeated them, just in time to be utterly crushed by Field Marshal Brandon. Gascogne and Roussillon are burning but are now quiet again.
July 13, 1513 : I accept the Turkish peace offer. I pay a tribute. It's exactly the same offer I made a year ago but since situation changed and now Turkey seems more inclined to make peace.
Peace...
Oh damn... I'm at peace ? Really ?
*looks to Paris to see if the storm is coming*
It's now time to recover my former might, to recover my former land (Caux, Normandy, Guyenne), to teach a lesson or two to those bloody frenchmen !
But before... Rebuilding my army, repaying my loans
I curse once more the Spanish crown until the end of time (sorry Laruku
)
My diplomatic activity was reduced to almost nothing during all those dark years. I avoided to engage into any alliance and even forge one. I didn't want to be caught in another war.
Now at peace, english diplomats frantically run across europe, knocking on everyone's door to speak awhile.
I forge a german alliance with Hannover, Brandebourg and Austria !
Hannover and Hessen will probably go at war one against the other one day or later but I don't really care. Hessen is reachable, it's not Turkey
Austria is my most valuable ally. I was amazed to see how fast the Holy Emperor forgave my annexion of Navarre during the first war against France. I think I have to thank Henry VIII diplomatic skills.
My current King is really the one who helped England to get out of the pit it fell.
October 19, 1513 : Kazan is annihilated by Russia, totally annexed.
October 23, 1513 : there is now 52k frenchmen in Bearn, between Gascogne and Navarre.
Field Marshal Brandon is leading a 20k army in Navarre as only opposition in case of war.
October 30, 1513 : Russia declares war to Golden Horde.
1514
I have to repay 2 loans this year. I already have enough funds to do it. Austria and France relationships are very cold (-125) so I consider that Austria will help me against France in future wars. Their troops being able to cross the HRE will threaten the eastern french borders... I hope... (Spain treason comes to my mind to haunt me).
France has a CB against me (I own Gascogne) so I expect to see frenchmen declaring war to me one year or the other.
I have to be ready to deal with them.
I'm only worried by religious troubles in Germany (Reform is close).
April 1, 1514 : the second english colony of America is founded.
Turkey-Spain war is limited to naval skirmishes and the eternal siege of Malta plus the now mighty landings of Turkey in Spain (roughly 15k men each time).
May 19, 1514 : Golden Horde gives a province to Russia as peace conditions.
June 3, 1514 : Done ! No more loans to repay. Time to build my might is beginning. I need to recruit soldiers to form at least three armies : one against the scoundrel Scots and two against France.
October 1, 1514 : White peace between Iraq and Venice.
1515
I fortified the battered town of San Sebastian. I am now recruiting intensively soldiers. My internal revenue is drained by the conscription.
Field Marshal Brandon will be my new Norfolk and I'm strengthening his army in Navarre.
Spain is still at war against Turkey on one side and Burgundy on the other. War against Burgundy is going to be inconclusive as noone can reach the other territory. Unless Burgundy agrees to give Flandres back, a white peace will be signed (France Comté, capital province of the newly state of Burgundy can't be reached by Spaniards as Bourguignons (don't know the word in english) can't cross foreign countries territories to attack Spain. Spain could have crush Burgundy if it owned the HRE crown. If the war against Burgundy lasts long enough to see a new HRE election, if Spain receives the crown, Burgundy will be doomed).
Here comes the Reform ! Political turmoil will hit Germany soon and the next election of the HRE will be interesting. Austria or Spain ?
I would have gladly embraced the protestant faith if I could have get out of that war against Turkey earlier. Now I can't. I have a good stability, yes (+3 indeed) but choosing the protestant faith will be the path of a future defeat against France. My army will barely be able to manage the probable rebellion if I cahnge the state religion so I can't even imagine keeping the frenchmen at bay at the same time. And the french King (the newly crowned François I) would be a fool to not attack a so severly weakened kingdom as mine in
such situation.
April 1515 : Spanish Lowlands are still plagued by constant rebellions.
On the other side of the Mediterranea, Turkey also face rebellions.
