Announcing the launch of the Offical Paradox Wiki Service

As a suggestion to think about for the future, if Paradox makes tools to export data from games to a wiki capable format, it would be awesome to share that tool with mod makers so they can wikify the info for their mods.

Haven't updated it lately though, and it doesn't apply the templates that are now used for the info it outputs. I might redo it in a different language at some point since the code is quite messy.

Might be a good idea to tell people that the source code of the parser is also available on github, should anyone want to contribute.

You should add support to connect to the Wiki inside your games. That way players can find up-to-date information about a mechanic directly from within the game itself.

Nameserver migration is happening, so some of the wikis might be intermittently down. Shouldn't last long in most cases.

Also, about the new forums, not using the classic bulletin old classic internet style, many companies fall in the temptation of ruining them by not displaying user number of posts, not enabling an avatar or permitting just one of a standard pack, or removing signatures.
vbulletin misses the thumbs up system that more modern social networks have and a better reply system. The inclusion of them will be gladly appreciated, but please don't remove those things.

The goal is to have as close of a look to todays forum at launch so as to minimize the shock of change, Don't worry that we will change the culture of the forums.
But again we will have lots of communication and transparency about what is going to happen as we get closer to launch.
So do not want to hijack this thread with that discussion.

I use a central wiki for some administration purposes. It is possible it'll be expanded upon in the future to cover that type of stuff, but no promises, sorry.

I certainly hope there won't be any thumbs up system. Seems really pointless when it doesn't actually affect sorting (like it does on reddit for example).
I'd be sad if signatures disappeared though. Custom avatars really isn't that big a deal in my opinion since there's such a huge set of game-relevant avatars offered.

We will be looking into many areas where we can add to the wiki, but I will stress that even though there will be increased official content possibly a support wiki, or a Paradox company history wiki as you suggest, wikis are really driven by community involvement and content, much like the forums are, so they will only be as good as the people contributing to them.

Translating the (mostly technical) English articles would be a fast process, I can see myself heavily contributing to the CK2 one for example. And given that the games' localizations are often not too good, an official and updated source of information in their language for the things Spanish (or German, etc) players don't understand would be very convenient.

Definitely a unique avatar at the moment. It's a scaled-down version of the Paradox Wikis logo.

I do not currently have any moderation powers outside the actual wikis.

Just started editing the EUIV wiki a few weeks ago during down times at work (under the name Owilde), and it's a great way to learn the game and feel like a part of the PD community (since I'm not much of a forum person). Props to Meneth and keep up the great work!
