The Delhi Sultanate beat back Mongol attacks as well in the 13th and early 14th century.

However, as the Sultanate fell apart and was wracked by civil war Timur sacked Delhi in 1398.

Arguably Steppe is the part most in need of deeper mechanics though. It's always been the most shallow part of the map and now devs are finally doing something about it. Just because some people are not interested in playing there doesn't mean it shouldn't be improved.

There's rarely a time I don't play there or at least interact there. Once you go steppe, you don't go back.

Like having 5 generations of Karl's and your heir names his first born Milkshake. Horse Lords...p-uke.
