Announcement: 'How Few Remain' in development

Victoria is showing her age nowdays but Im pleased to announce that development for a mod based on the Harry Turtledove book 'How Few Remain' and the 'American Front' & 'American Empire' series is now underway.

Many people will know my work on the Settling Accounts mod for HOI2. Back in Vicky's early years I began a mod based on Turtledove's books but lacked the experience to do anything more than the most basic of alterations and unsurprisingly the mod died.

Much has changed and the mod has risen again. Work is well underway and a ton of mod-specific events have already been written. Fans of the books can expect at least 3 distinct scenarios to choose from-

1863: Just after the dust from the civil war has settled. This scenario will give players extended time before the 2nd Mexican War breaks out.

1880: A scenario that starts a short while before President Longstreet makes his gamble for a Confederate States that stretches from Sea to shining Sea.

1914: The Great War. Trenches and tanks, except this time the trench lines are on the Kentucky border as well as the Franco-German border.

I'll probably create a proper thread once the time is right, this just being a little heads up for those people who still love Vicky and Mr Turtledove.

I was just testing a 1914 scenario as the USA. I think Canada may be overpowered at the moment- very quickly some 100,000 Canadians came screaming across the border! :rofl:

A suggestion for Canada is to fortify Ottawa to the highest level. So as to make up for the fact that it is closer to the Yankee border than Toronto. Which does kind of defeat the purpose of building the capital in a backwater. By the way will this mod be able to lead into your hearts of iron modification?

1863 Scenario - Have CSA option to buy Cuba. USA gets to threaten early war with CSA, though AI chance will be low.

How Few Remain - The deal to purchase Chihuaha and Sonora was a reality in our timeline as well. It could have included all of the Baja peninsula, Sonora, Chihuaha, and Neuva Leon. Instead, the opinions of the USA and the Mexicans themselves led to the USA getting only the Gadsen Purchase, and added an extra county to Arizona and New Mexico. Give the CSA the chance to buy these extra provinces as well for an increased price.

Aftermath of How Few Remain - If CSA does not own Cuba, trigger Spanish-Confederate War like the Spanish American war in our timeline, in which they can conquer Cuba, and get the Philippines and Puerto Rico as part of the peace deal. USA can threaten war on acquisition of CSA colonies, or come in on the side of the Spanish during the war. France and Britain will get the option to intervene as well, leading to an early Great War.

If CSA owns Cuba, trigger Japanese-Spanish War in which Japan will take control of Spanish Pacific holdings.

Formation of Quadruple Alliance and Entente blocs.

American Empire - Whichever side loses the war, have that nation go fascist. Jake Featherston of course for the south. Custer in the beginning and maybe Irving Morrell nearer to the end can take up some fascist USA, forged even harder for revenge with another loss to the Rebs. Custer, aged as he was, coming out to denounce the war department's folly in barrel deployment and mismanagement of the war, like Featherston did, and perhaps Morrell backing him up after Custer dies from one reason or another.

Not that I doubt you but is this opinion or fact?, its just that I never heard that part about baja, and neuva leon...

As originally envisioned, the purchase would have encompassed a much larger region, extending far enough south to include most of the current Mexican states of Coahuila, Chihuahua, Sonora, Nuevo León, and Tamaulipas as well as all of the Baja California peninsula. These original boundaries were opposed not only by the Mexican people but also by anti-slavery U.S. Senators who saw the purchase as tantamount to the acquisition of more slave territory.

Now, the Gadsen Purchase was from 1853, before even the Civil War, but if the offer was possible once, perhaps it could be possible again, and at least an alternative to the CSA just always getting Chihuahua and Sonora by themselves. It'd have to cost more, even souring relations with Mexico and incurring rebellions in the ceded territory, but like I said, might be an interesting choice that affects little else. As far reaching as I can think of, the Mexican Revolution of 1910 might result in ALOT of revolts in these territories, or a revolutionized Mexico coming to the aid of the USA in the Great War to regain their lost territory.
