Ah, an independent Brazil. Good for them, but it could inspire your colonial nations to be problematic. Nice to see the HRE becoming so accepting of cultures. Powerful and tolerable.

The new Kaiser is good, but your heir leaves much to be desired. Hopefully it won't be a long reign, or an accident happens...

Chapter 31: The Second Steppe War
KPZAhZT.png

For the second time Holy Roman armies would march out and Meet rival greek forces alongside the Russians. The Russians whom were not happy with the original treaty of Athens and wished to liberate further Russian lands from greek and Tatar hands.

pv24El6.png

Once Crimea was secured Holy Roman forces were led by General Johann Cicero Scheler to meet main Byzantine trusst into Russia outside the Fortress at Pereyaslavl. However Russian reinforcements and the less skilled or experienced General Scheler had to fight ther Byzantine army alone while the Russians licked thier wounds and continued to struggle with the Byzantium's Steppe allies. Ultimately Holy Roman troops won the day, being better trained as well as the natural bonus of Morale for serving in the strongest military in the world. After nearly a month of intense fighting the greeks broke.

5mpk78w.png

The Greek General Matthaios Heliogabalus was removed from Command and replaced with the more talented Honorius Constantius fresh from a string of smaller scale victories in the Northeast. Honorius dug into the Crimean Peninsula and waited for Reinforcements from Anatolia for more Cannon, Cavalry and supplies. His Intent would be to draw Holy Roman troops into a meat grinder, Should he be ignored he would be given free reign to disrupt supply lines and reinforcements with impunity. What Honorius did not expect however was the Roman Navy arriving outside the Peninsula and rendering Honorius' well laid plans null and void.

w9G88em.png

With the Byzantines now officially run out of Crimea and Russia finally winning in the steppe Roman troops continued to advance eastwards, heading for the Georgian mountains. Victory in Alania and occupation of Georgia would completely lock Greek reinforcements from Russia.

RW2CObk.png

Meanwhile the Mongolians were free to make thier own gains in the west. Embolded by conquests in China the Mongolians attacks the collapsing Muhammid Caliphate and severed the northern half of the Caliphate off without much fight at all. The First in a series of harsh peaces to be made by the Mongols in their quest to achieve dominance in Central Asia.

GYbn95C.jpg

Elsewhere the Byzantines tried with one last gasp to break the Holy Roman line in Alania and Greece. Though thier numbers were now significantly reduced and the last two Greek warhosts were sent back, broken and defeated.

KZTJFcm.png

With their best efforts thwarted and being well aware of the Spectre of Muslim rebellions in the Easternmost regions of the Empire the Greek Basileus surrendered, signing the second peace of Athens. Further territory was ceded to Russia in the north. Though this time the Holy Roman Empire made no formal demands despite large areas of the Merchant council demanding the cession of Rhodes, Crete and Cyprus for Austrian Naval concerns.

c3GaEK7.png

Elsewhere the fires of revolution were stirring. The Nasrid Coup in Brazil had been widely unpopular. Portuguese Loyalists and Brazilian revolutionaries now once more found common cause against an oppressive monarch, one that threatened to become a worse Tyrant than the portuguese administration ever could be. Austria's gambit had failed and now the risk of this revolutionary plague spreading into Kolonia or Guyana was becoming very apparent,

c3GaEK7.png

Despite some Minor intervention the Nasrids were once more overthrown and this time a Brazilian noble republic, the First of its Kind in America was formed. The Portuguese legalistas (Loyalists) eventually became the dominant faction in the post revolutionary government re-instituting the Nobility as a class and reopening relations with the mother country of Portugal. Though even the Loyalists had felt the boons of being free of strict Andalusian mercantilism and were divided themselves over the prospect of reintegration. The Referendum of Brasilia was held to determine should Brazil return under the Umayyad dynasty and the results spoke loudly, Brazil would remain an independent republic.

i4xYZFI.png

This sent shockwaves throughout Europe namely in Holy Rome and her colonies which was diverse as it was powerful. The Parliamentary democracy of the Greeks and the new Republic of Brazil were shining examples of Democracy. Following the Ideals of Philosophers such as John Locke, and Jean-Jacques Rousseau a new Republican ideology was being formed among the merchant classes. Facing potential issues in Emperor Friedrich issued vague promises to further open the system to elected officials, though no action was done in this regard. Local press however was censored and such ideas quickly became illegal to discuss in public, many of these political dissidents would later flee to the colonies.

UicVBuz.png

Meanwhile Friedrich continued his moves to secure Austria as the dominant power in the world. Using the Imperial fleet Holy Roman forces quickly set about occupying Cordoba and the Republic of Africa. Worried about inviting even more revolutionary ideals into the Austrian population, small concessions were demanded from the Africans.

cpQFMDw.png

Cordoba however did not receive so light of terms. To better secure Austrian interests abroad the fortress of Gibraltar was seized to function as an Austrian Naval base. In addition to this large amounts of Cordoba's african empire was also taken, including Kongolese and South African territory. Cordoba's interests in China and Australia were left wholly untouched.

e7JAtEM.png

Thus beginning the Holy Roman neglect of America and a shift of Focus to africa, and Asia.

Russia prospers! Hopefully they will remember who helped them defeat the Byzantine Empire when the time comes. Also, it seems Mongolia is growing stronger every year. Iraq was once massive, but they're quickly becoming a border state for much more powerful nations.

The wars with Africa and Cordoba went wonderfully. The small gains from Africa weaken the republic, and the massive territory taken from Cordoba should give the HRE access to a lot more resources. You already have a decent presence in the New World, so focusing on Africa and Asia sounds smart.

1-2 more Chapters left before we hit the Brick wall of 1821 btw . So we'll be switching to Vicky soon.

Chapter 32: Setting the Stage

ObSAAS5.png

As if like clockwork once ready to give war again the Russians attacked the Byzantine once again this time in hopes of breaking the Greek stranglehold on the Eastern Steppe Lands. Again drawn into a conflict with the Byzantine Empire thanks to Russia, Kaiser Friedrich enacted a final plan to put an end to these conflicts.

drABRwJ.png

With Russian lines once again collapsing to the Greeks and Crimea and struggling to deal with the various Steppe tribes now rampaging through the Russian countryside Supreme Commander Wilhelm Friedrich Walther decided to take over command of the allied front himself rather than extending this unnecessary war even longer. In a quick Cavalry action Walther caught the Byzantine army at Zaporozhia and pinned them until the main Roman force could arrive, surround and crush the Byzantine Army. Then Walther set about his march south.

hx0AdHI.jpg

Enacting the same plan as the Second Steppe War, Holy Roman forces forced 'The Georgian Chokehold" a line of fortification, outriders and artillery positions built to completly block passage of Greek troops north. The Greeks whom could neither break the Imperial Blockade, or deal with Imperial Cannon were forced to sign a peace and bow out of the war. Leaving Russia and the various steppe tribes to fight, and thus no longer require Roman Intervention on either side.

rZ0VP7c.png

Meanwhile Kaiser Friedrich set about officially incorporating the new territories seized from Cordoba into the Imperial administration. The First of which would be the complete abolition of slavery in all formerly Cordoban colonies. With the supply of slaves none cut off the Economy in Cordoban Mexico collapsed, and like the Portuguese before them, cries of independence had become to ring out in the streets.

lioyOdp.png

To Compensate for end of the slave trade, and to keep the African colonies profitable far into the future Kaiser Friedrich announced the African Company Act. The Act was designed on controlling the trade mainly through the Cape of good hope through the creation of several state backed Trade Companies whom would also partially govern the African colonies in exchange for a limited monopoly on production and trade in thier designated regions. Thus giving birth to the Austrian South African Company, and the Imperial Central African Company in South Africa and Kongo respectively.

J6C5oZr.png

7Mo47I7.png

The Holy Roman Empire was not alone in advancing more colonial intrests. The Raja of Kosalla once again had invaded the Shia Caliphate. This Time the Raj would take nearly the entire south half of the ancient empire further accelerating the decline of the one powerful Muslim state. Now weakened the Shia would again face invasions by both the Mongols and Greeks in the coming years.

FOpjiZF.jpg

Cordoba as well as continued down its own path to Decline. The Spanish and Portuguese both declared with intent to partition up the Cordoban colonial Empire. The Spanish however were having problems at home, namely with radical revolutionaries that had begun to rise in Barcelona and Burgos and the Basques were forced to make a meager peace, asking for only some of their territory returned, and some coastline in North Africa.

0jfZoSU.png

The Portuguese, now facing potentially an intervention from Cordoba's american armies, sued for peace as well. Seizing large amounts of territory in Indonesia as well as the northern Coastline of Australlia. Little did the portuguese know, that that Cordoban America was about to declare a war all thier own.

YaIybqQ.png

As was Typical Kaiser Friedrich had continued to support the independence of the American colonies. With Economic collapse looming for the Mexican and Caribbean citizens of the Cordoban administration talk of rebellion against the strict Cordoban colonial policies that had been enacted. The Slaves of the Cordoban West Indies who were secretly being armed by the Holy Roman Navy, revolted. When the Cordobans failed to subjugate the slaves of Hispaniola, the Mexicans and Louisianians also declared Independence. One of the Smallest nations in Europe was at war with nearly the whole of america.

h3Duu5N.png

With Independence a near eventuality for the Cordoban Americans, Friedrich passed suddenly of a strange illness leaving his son and heir Wenzel Anniona upon the Holy Roman Throne. Wenzel did not have the diplomatic skill to manage the war. With a new Emperor of course the cries for representation once again rose in the Imperial House of Nobles. Wenzel, feeling threatened ordered such talk to seize completely, and that no further reforms we be introduced. The Nobles, Particular Italian nobles who felt their rights were now being threatened, left the Council of Nobles, some of whom even turned Militant.

TKFQSvf.png

Though these Rebels were going to be few in number, they were a mere symptom of the greater Crisis about to rock the Empire to it's core.

Ouch, Cordoba is looking worse and worse every war now. It doesn't have a chance against its colonies in America.

The HRE shouldn't have too much of an issue in this Pretender War. I like the new Trade Companies too.

Chapter 33: Let the Music Play
BYTsqoD.png

The Cordobans quickly powered out of the war once Kaiser Wenzel order an Invasion of Cordoba's spanish territories proper. The Treaty of Naples, Signed in 1812 officially recognized the Independence of the Slave revolts in the Caribbean, and the continental forces in Cordoban Louisiana and Cordoban Mexico.

5NNCXqw.png

The Portuguese who had also become involved in the war were also forced to sign the Harsh terms at Naples, Ceding over various treaty ports throughout Africa and Asia, Including the Island of Formosa as well as the Hawaiian and Solomon Islands.

YissBbK.png

The Newly freed Colonial Administrations wasted no time. Louisiana's constitutional council as it was called produced the Acts of the Golden Plain. A Document designing a government under a Similar situation to that of the Byzantine Emperor. The Local Duke of Louisiana who supported the revolution would be made King, with a revolutionary congress to check his power.

3kcgNfZ.png

In Haiti the Ideals of pure democracy were stronger. Nearly the entire old guard were expelled from the Island and the few Educated slaves that existed in Haiti established a formal Caribbean Republic with promises to Liberate slaves, everywhere, including areas such as New Anglia, and Cordoban Mexico where the practice was reintroduced. A new democracy in america did not help matters much for Austria. It seems that the Holy Roman Empire had finally shot itself one to many times.

pgstjtz.png

The Days of old absolutism and status quo were dying. In america in particular the people were beginning to grow more vocal, and more violent in their demands for reform. demands that would continue to go unanswered by Kaiser Wenzel by members of the Holy League.

MVehQGA.png

Even Quebec, the smallest of the American colonies had fallen to the spectre of revoltion. When a french warship was burned in the St Lawrence by revolutionaries, the Celts quickly mobilized. Fearing further uprising in his own land Kaiser Wenzel demanded the French stand down and draw terms with the Colonials.

The French were unwilling to compromise and instead marched over the Rhine into Holy Roman Territory, demanding Holy League aid under threat of war.

IGsY3tv.png

The Imperial navy strike the first true blows in the war, catching and sinking over half the French fleet at Lands end. A Grim omen for any Chance the Celts would have winning this war.

8VbyWFw.png

These Initial armies were dealt with, and shattered. The French Military while modern lacked the experience of Modern Warfare the Empire had learned against the Greeks. Alsace Lorraine and parts of the Rhineland were quickly Occupied and the French now found themselves exiled from the Holy League, though to call it a league anymore would be incorrect as the First Franco-Imperial war would result in Russia leaving the alliance as well.

LiVkJrM.png

As Imperial troops made further and further progress towards the city of Paris the Celts grew more and more worried of an Austrian Seizure of northern france and quickly drew terms of surrender with the Quebecois in America, signing a hasty peace deal though this would also include the session of spanish and Lowland territory to parties outside French Influence as well as the release of Quebec.
miMII1W.png

And with that final Peace with the French at Paris, The Holy Roman Empire had become the only Colonial power in America. Though this wouldn't last for long as despite continued support of other independent regimes the people of South America desired their own independence.

t3Thihf.png

The Fugger Medici, Long loyal subjects of the Empire had been entrusted with control of Austrian trade in the new world, and management of large sections of the National Bank of Austria. However the Medici had begun to feel the winds turning in America and threw in their lot with the Americans, embezzling from the bank to fund colonial rebels in Montevideo. When the Imperial administration discovered this, the National bank was on the border of collapse and only through a massive donation from Wenzel's personal treasury was the bank saved.

AG8oH8B.png

Worse still, within even the confines of the Government dissent had grown. The Reichsrat had become disillusioned with Wenzel's reign having witnessed both disillusion of the Holy League and rising unrest in America. Using agents within the Military the Capital was seized, and Kaiser Wenzel forced to sign a document ceding over almost all of his power to the Reichsrat and Military. The Leader of this coup would be none other than an Italian Noble from Corsica, by the name of Bonaparte.

ESS_PasteBitmap06013.png

Perhaps out of sheer luck the Reichsrat quickly turned on each other after sensing victory over House Anniona. Napoleon Bonaparte set the city of Vienna aflame, killing thousands, including his political rivals and marched west, into Italy declaring himself the leader of a new italian republic. Crown Prince Karl-Joseph however had the fortune to be vacationing in Bohemia during that summer and arrived at the head of a Loyalist army to liberate what remained of the capital, though unfortunately it had appeared Kaiser Wenzel did not survive the fire.

BOJRLXc.png

Karl-Joseph would be the opposite of his father, A Diplomat and an administrator instead of a commander. Unfortunately now a commander was something Austria desperately needed as Napoleon Bonaparte, the self proclaimed liberator of Italy and revolutionary Leader was gathering more and more support in the western half of the Empire.

X9XQlpE.png

Sensing Weakness the Kolonian Administration in south america released several indian generals as well as the rouge revolutionary from cordoban Mexico, Simon Bolivar from captivity. On September 8th 1818 the Congress of south america sent a list of Grievances to the Imperial temporary capital at Prague. This list would later be known as the Declaration of Independence.

jwtmpw9.png

With Italy and America in revolt things appeared to finally be at their darkest when the Celtics returned to the fold, either out of loyalty or pragmatism French armies once more joined Austria on the Fields of Italy.

Though as the world slowly moved forward the fires of Revolution did not die, On Christmas day 1821 while Napoleon fought the French in Milan, Italian revolutionaries had stormed the army depot at Firenze and declared their allegiance to Napoleon's new Italian republic. An act that would quickly be replicated through italy throughout the next few weeks until the whole of the Peninsula had been lost.

image

The Revolution had begun.

Well then! Independence is the order of the day, with apparently every colonial nation desiring to be free of Europe's rulers. Worse still, Italy is trying to break away from the HRE. Just as Germany was eventually taught its lesson for defying you, so shall these fools! Now you have a goal for V2...

This is Final Update actually, one final summary of EU4.. Sadly im too far out of practice with modding Vicky to set up a Civil war at the start of the game (Though its a fantastic Idea) So I'll be doing pre-vicky updates on the revolution before Vicky itself starts.

Final Wrapup

W9GsOaE.jpg

We'll be starting the Final Wrapup with America. As you can see North America is now completely free of all Colonial Influence besides My own. New Anglia has won a minor war against the Knight's Transient but now with Quebec Liberated the Knights have formed a Bloc with Canada the US and Mexico offsetting New Anglia's dominant position in America. Cordoban Mexico (I wish I could rename them to Texas but oh well) and Louisiana have Minor positions in the great plains and serve as buffer states between mexico and New Anglia.

Mc6209G.png

In South America we have my lovable rebellious children Kolonia, Guyana and Peru, and poor little Innocent Brasilien being dragged along through peer Pressure. They are floating each at liberty desite 80%ish so in the 15 years between Now and Victoria they would have definitely revolted, and stood a fairly good chance due the massive uprising in Italy.

z6kZwbd.jpg

Moving onto the first member of the Holy League. We the Celtics, who rose from being a mere vassal state of the Empire 500 years ago to being one of the most powerful nations on the planet. The Bretons have unified France and Britain into a singular Celtic Empire. Though its an Empire being pulled in every direction at the same time as French-Scottish Divide has never been greater. The Client State of Occitannia and the Alsace Lorraine compromise however are large sources of tension between the French and Imperials, something that could escalate into a full scale war in the future once Napoleon has been put down.

vLf0vCk.jpg

Spain much like in our Timeline has collapsed. Ironically enough via pretender rebels again. Though the Kingdoms of Portugal and Cordoba have not fared much better unable to hold onto their American Empires as even without Imperial Aid the native states in America were more than a match for their small overlords in Africa. The Legacy of House Umayyad and the Spanish Annnionas has died with a
whimper. Though there remains some hope, as Cordoba and Portugal still have colonial territories in Asia that could bear fruit.
iygf9c0.jpg

Northern Europe is the tinderbox of Europe, and thats putting it lightly. Poland is off the map and yet still is the Cultural Majority in its De Jure lands. Meanwhile Denmark and Westphalia have agreed to a short Ceasefire in their ongoing struggle to unite Northern Europe. It this wasn't bad enough due to being propped up by the Russians Sweden has now recently begun to seize their core territories back from the Danish and are likely going to be attempting to continue this trend into Victoria (They have cores on virtually all of Scandinavia). Denmark is very much the sick man of Europe in TTL, dealing with Minority revolts in Poland, Sweden, Germany and the Netherlands it'll need a Miracle to hold together, or great power intervention for Stability in the region.

UFbp7Io.jpg

Russia Meanwhile has united eastern Europe with an Iron fist. With Imperial backing they have also seized territory from the Byzantine Empire and have become the Hegemony of the East, challenged only by the Mongols who still have not westernized.

nV7g34T.jpg

The Culture map of Europe. Things haven't changed on this front much at all. But its worth showing since it'll become relevant.

kodclv2.png

Overall were the highest in score followed by the Byzantines, Celts and Danish. Though I should not before forming the Empire I was around Equal with the French. I also have the largest Military and Navy mostly becuase Italy prints so much money for me due to the way the AI handling of development works.

xkooTNJ.png

Here's the religious map of the world. As you can see, its mostly catholic. With Catholic Mongols and Coptic Malaysia and a powerful Hindu led Kosalla Islam has died as a major religion and is on the road to following Zoroastrianism and Paganism before it. Shinto as well as two buddhist faiths have died out meaning the world is mostly Catholic, with Hindu, Confusion and Orthodox being the only major resistances to the Pope's Influence.

ogIwqUR.png

Here is the Empire in all its Final Glory. We didn't reconquer Europe but we reunited the Empire as well as conquering both the Aztec and Japanese ones.

C7g9UJ6.png

To put things in Perspective here is the world Map. You can see the Rising powers of Punjab and Wu dominating thier respective spheres (Apparently I dont have screenshots and loading the endsave crashes EUIV :( ) Also Notable is Mongolia, Who is STILL a Khanate Steppe Horde with the Horde Tech Group and have actually beaten the Westernized WU multiple times now. And people say a Mongol Restoration is impossible :p

Also put in Perspective is Byzantium's monster size. I had expected them to run into problems and even revolutions after the triple beat down they experienced at the hands of me and Russia but they have only continued to grow. Though unfortunately due to how I converted the save Byzantium takes quite a bit of a nerf, Though I take significantly more.

So Overall Our goals for this Campaign:

1. Restore the Empire!

Done in Spades, they I probably could have done it sooner. Since this was my first time actually forming the HRE after Common Sense it was an interesting experience to say the least. If Shadow Kingdom fired via someone taking land in Italy this would have become a completely different game though, one in which I'd be forced to war for more land to add to the empire, probably getting carried away in the process.

2. Establish Colonies for Austria

Great victory here, not only did we have the largest Colonial Empire in the world, we Colonized Japan (Something you don't see very often) which is functionally the HRE's India. Ironically enough the Bretons and Basques didn't colonize until very late meaning Cordoba and Portugal became Colonial powers instead. The Norwegians (Well Saxon Norwegians) also got involved briefly and colonized Vinland, but lost it Enabling Canada to become the first European state in America. Of course the Irony is hilarious. What is also funny is Both the Anglo Saxons and the Saxons both fled to the new world where they have finally found a home in a world Dominated by Byzantium, Austria, Britanny and Russia.

Some of the Failed new world Nations I spoke of before were the Great Lakes Confederation, a republic that had the potential to expand across the entire great lakes region. The Arizona which controlled a large swath of desert in Mexico and the Mojave. Actual Vinland which was set up on the Eastern coast of the US near maine and was eaten almost instantly by the Knights Transient. New Ireland, which also was killed by the Knight's Transient. In fact that seems to be a running theme with everything on the East coast of the modern US this game, Don't mess with the Knight's Transient.

3. Stop the Revolution, Unless we are the Revolutionary power in which case, Spread it like crazy!
Well the only nations to ever be hit with a real honest to goodness revolution were Brazil Malaysia and Cordoban Mexico, each of whom just liberalized and didn't go into full Revolution mode, so a bit disappointing but, Great victory for Absolutism i suppose!.

4. Inherit a Elector Title.

Failed. I Kept Bohemia under a personal union for over 170 years and just couldn't inherit them and eventually when the lost thier elector title I decided to spend the Diplo points and just eat them. I ended up losing Czech as an accepted culture when I inherited the Empire which was a bit disappointing as well.
So now that Anniona Universalis is done. We have yet another Major story in the History of House Anniona. One that will have the old and prestigious roman house going up against not just foreign opposition but their own subjects as they struggle to control the Crown they have fought so desperately to obtain.

Find out how the Story continues through a new Age, One marked by bloodshed, Revolutions, Industry and of course, Anniona and Iron.

Reactions:
Thank you for the final world update in EU4. The HRE, Byzantine Empire, and France seem like the three strongest nations in the world. What will happen in the era of revolution? All could crumble, or they could seize the entire world...
