In my current 1936, 1.04 game as Italy, I've annexed sometime after 1938 the following minors:

  • Oman
  • Yemen
  • Iraq
  • The rump-state of Nationalist Spain (reduced to 2 mainland provinces after I first took out Republican Spain - I decided to finish the job)

Each time I've annexed these countries, which have something less than 10 Industrial Capacity (IC) I've experienced a win-fall of 1,000's of dollars. Yemen, Oman and Nationalist Spain each yielded about 8,000 dollars.

I'm intrigued. Is this intended and is there a rationale for it?

In AoD it is fairly easy to make money, I get 10k with Germany at 1939, but Oman with 8k?

Spot on - it is the size of these countries that makes the plunder so surprising. I confess to not having done the math, but I cannot imagine that these countries could amass anything like these amounts of cash. I'd appreciate someone debunking this untested belief mind you.

its probably okay tbh, lots of countries had most gold reserves stolen and used by Germany during the war. Especially countries such as the low lands and Poland which had little or no time to get their gold out. Czech's also lost a significant amount of gold.

Okay, you guys are making me more comfortable with the concept of the big-haul, but does anyone know how these minors actually acquire such reserves in-game? I'm afraid I probably don't have game-saves to go back to for testing, but I'm perplexed at just how, within the game mechanics, a country like Oman could build up 8,000 dollars of reserves.

If I can go back to before my annexation, and take a look at Oman from the inside, I'll do it and post-back.

I just loaded up a 1936 (Nov) game as Oman. They don´t trade because they´re a puppet of UK. Their demand for energy and steel is granted for free by UK. They don´t build anything and they don´t reinforce anything. This leads to generating around 8 or 8.5$ a day. They are producing 2,880$ a year, which means 8,000$ in 1938 are quite possible.
