Annexing Egypt as OTTO

So after a year of hard fighting I can now annex Egypt, should I? It is mostly state culture and has much cotton, as well as access to rich colonizable lands. ALso you get about 250 prestiege for annexing it. On the other hand it would give me a very healthy 50BB!!!!!!!!! Since I am in an alliance with UK FRA and AUS I am guessing that RUS will not attack, but who knows. Taking on 50BB now will pretty much codemn me to peace until and after the crimean war. The OTTOs obviously have a lot of internal stuff to sort out so maybe the down time would be good.

ANyway just wondering how people play this situation. 50BB is a huge ammount especially in 1839, but the benefits are pretty large too.

I say take it and screw the Russians. A massive war with an enemy three times your size would certainly be interesting. I'd do it.

Don't do it unless you have enough military strength to deter or at least handle the BB wars that might come.

Note that if you take everything except the Egyptian capital, you will get zero BB from it. Wait 5 years, declare war and annex the last province, giving a grand total of one BB for annexing all of Egypt. If you make sure to humiliate them in the first war as well, you should have a 1 prestige DOW for the last war.

Not with 1.03. Taking uncivilized provinces gives you BB now.

Edit: Hmm, I don't see this in the readme, maybe I'm wrong. Anyone tested this?

BB = badboy. It's a rating that says how "bad" other nations consider you to be, e.g. because you've been conquering territories or declaring wars. If it gets too high, other nations start considering declaring war on you just to curb your imperialistic ways.

I think this is incredibly gamey...if I was going to do that I would just annex them now and edit my BB to 1, at least thats realistic and I got 0 BB for taking 22 provinces off egypt so no that was not changed.

Hopefully badboy will be looked into in the future. I like most of the way it works today, but it has some holes, such as the 2-step annexation trick.

Ideally, there should be a game setting for how much you want badboy to be a factor in the game, ranging from "none" (where no badboy is counted - WC galore!) to "severe" (where you'd accumulate badboy even faster and get rid of it slower than today), with a couple of steps along the way.

you are wrong! 0 BB for declaring colonial war, 0 BB for taking uncivilized land, 1 BB/province for annexing. this didnt change in 1.03

Gamey? Maybe, but you just exchange prestige for less badboy. Annexing and editing is cheating

Btw, you could made them your satellite in first war, apart from taking some territory in Egypt-you get Syria as its your core.

The last time I played Otto it was in 1.02 and I annexed them and shortly thereafter the Russians declared war on me, I bought them off by offering them Constanta and bought them off but after a month the silly buggers dec'd on me again and I bought them off again but then the next day they dec'd on me again. I ran in to that stupid war bug so I ended up not coming back to that game. Now that that bug is fixed I would say annex them.

Don't do it. I did it about a week ago with the Ottomans and Russia attacked while UK dishonored their treaty with me because of the 50BB I got. Do it in stages--trust me, the land down there in Sudan is not worth that extra annex...

Don't worry, it took me a while to figure this one out too. I sat there thinking BB=battleship instead of badboy. Annex Egypt and get 50 battleships? Sounds good to me.
